"Between Materialism and Spiritualism: Modern Art Reconsidered"

Some modern painters saw a specific painterly materiality as an expression of something spiritual. This lecture will explore this kind of unique split between positivist materialism and spiritualism in the history of modern art.

Dr. Endo is Professor of English, Seikei University in Tokyo, Japan. He is the author, editor, and contributor to numerous texts on the intersection of literature and psychoanalysis - with a speciality in Bloomsbury culture of the early 20th Century. He is also the translator of books on psychoanalysis into Japanese. Dr Endo is currently a Senior Visiting Research Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies, University of College London, where he is conducting original research on the work of Roger Fry.

3D Printing Orientation Session

Join us in the Makerspace@Paterson to learn the ins and outs of 3D printing on the Makerspace printers. This 30-minute session will include a general introduction to 3D printing, basic features and operation of the printers and safety guidelines. Attendance at a 3D Printing Orientation is required for anyone wanting to use the printers.

Are you a person living with dementia, a family member or friend, or a supporter? Join us at the Living Well with Dementia: Creating Dialogues of Resilience Conference on Monday, October 16!

Learn and share about hope & resilience amidst dementia, challenging stigma, and connecting with others. Featuring keynote speakers Myrna Norman (a person living with dementia and advocate) and Rebekah Churchyard (of Dementia Green Care Farms).

There will also be opportunities to browse vendor booths and learn about available health services in our community. Continental breakfast, coffee/tea, lunch and snacks are included. This conference is being run for and by people living with dementia and care partners.

The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) is offering a Wood WORKS seminar at Lakehead University on Thursday, October 5. The event will explore the world of innovative wood applications and structural solutions with industry experts sharing their insights, strategies, research, and case studies.

Prof. Sam Salem, Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering who is hosting this event, will deliver a lecture in both the morning and the afternoon sessions on Building Tall with Wood: Benefits, Opportunities and Challenges, as part of this seminar.

Morning presentations will be in AT1007 and the afternoon presentations will be in AT2001.

The seminar is open to everyone and no registration is required. However, available spots are limited, so first come first serve.
