Commercialization Grant
The purpose of the Focused Investment Program (FIP) – Social Sciences is to provide funding to support the examination of new approaches to research critical to the transformation of arrhythmia care practices in Canada. The objectives of the FIP – Social Sciences are to:
• Build knowledge, understanding and capacity within interdisciplinary and/or cross sector research teams.
• Mobilize research knowledge around critical social, cultural and technological issues related to the promotion of an accessible and sustainable health care system for arrhythmia health.
• Deepen understandings that inform solutions employed in the transformation of arrhythmia care practices in Canada.
FIP – Social Sciences Projects must be focused on research that is aligned with CANet’s strategic plan and have the potential to integrate into larger CANet Programs/Projects (see https://canet-nce.ca/2016-2019-strategic-plan). Up to $150,000 can be requested (over a maximum of 2 years) is available for Projects in areas aligned with CANet’s strategic priorities. Matching funds are not required but recommended. A maximum of one FIP-Social Sciences program can be held at any one time by a Network Investigator. Senior Investigators (>10 years) are strongly encouraged to include and mentor a junior co-PI on the Project.
The funding for this round is contingent on the successful renewal of CANet by the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE). Successful proposals will become key outlined projects as part of the CANet renewal application to the NCE. If CANet is successful at renewal, funds will flow to successful proposals on April 1, 2020. Please plan your budgets accordingly.

Eligibility
The competition is open to all CANet Network Investigators. If you have questions regarding your eligibility to submit an application or how to become a CANet Network Investigator, please contact Kevin O’Neil (koneil@canet-nce.ca) for more information. You may apply to this competition concurrently with an application for CANet membership.
Proposals are not eligible for a FIP – Social Sciences grant if they:
• focus only on collecting data without interpreting underlying mechanisms;
• seek to certify, endorse, validate or performance test an existing product, process or material (unless accompanied by significant efforts to improve or better understand the product, process or material);
• relate to the set-up and operational management of an institute or a formal or informal group of researchers.
