Health Promotion and Wellness Activities

WellU Wind Down

Launching this September, WellU Wind Downs is a new series from the Student Health and Wellness Health Promotion team. These low-key, drop-in events will be running throughout the year. Each one is a chance to slow down, meet other students, and take part in some kind of activity to help you unwind and connect.

WellU Wednesday: Namaste in Bed

Take a break from the excitement of a new school year with a calming yoga session focused on unwinding, followed by a build-your-own sleep tea bar. You'll leave with practical ideas from Student Health and Wellness to support a better night's sleep.

No experience necessary, bring you own mat if possible.

WellU Wednesday: Rec The Yard

Kick back, play, and connect at Rec the Yard!

Join Student Health and Wellness and Campus Rec for some friendly competition with lawn games like spikeball and cornhole, all while learning about the fitness and recreation opportunities available to you on campus

WellU Wednesday: Block Party

Join the Student Health and Wellness team and connect with the people and services that support your well-being, on campus and in the Thunder Bay community. Drop by for info tables, fun activities, and a chance to discover resources that can help you stay well throughout your time at Lakehead.

(OR) safeTALK

safeTALK is a 4-hour, in-person workshop to build skills in suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to recognize and engage with someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide and connect with intervention resources for further support.

Through presentations, audiovisuals, small group discussion and scenario practice, you will learn a 4-step TALK model and practical steps to help activate a suicide alert that connects people having thoughts of suicide with more specialized intervention care and relevant resources.

WellU Wednesday

For the first five weeks of classes, Student Health and Wellness will be hosting WellU Wednesdays: a series of low-key, drop-in events designed to help you settle into university life, connect with other Thunderwolves, and explore supports and services on campus and in the community.

(OR) It's Your Move: Drop-In Pickleball

In honour of the It's Your Move: 100 Hour Challenge starting in May, join Student Health & Wellness for Drop-In Pickleball! Meet us at the Rotary Place Tennis Courts for fun and movement! No experience is necessary; beginners are welcome! All equipment will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Student Health and Wellness Open House

As part of CMHA Mental Health Week’s focus on connection, we invite faculty and staff to drop in and connect with the people, spaces, and supports that make up Student Health and Wellness.

This is a great chance to meet the team, ask questions, and better understand how to connect students to the right supports so that we can work together to support student wellbeing.

Wellness Walk

Join Student Health and Wellness for a short walk outdoors to connect with others, appreciate nature, and recharge. Open to all members of the Lakehead community. We will meet in front of Simcoe Hall and walk towards rotary place and either walk around the pond, or along the trails in scouts valley depending on the preference of the group.

Super Smash Bros Drop-in

The Lakehead community is invited to come together and connect over a game of Super Smash Bros! Drop by and challenges your friends, peers, and colleagues, and engage in a little friendly competition to strengthen belonging and connection. No skill or expertise is required! And those who prefer to spectate are more than welcome to join.
