Addressing Anti-Black Racism To Change Pedagogy & Practice Part 2

Through a community-centred approach, candidates will collaboratively engage in learning inquiries that prioritize Black voices, philosophies, thoughts, and stories. This approach promotes listening, co-creating, and communicating with African, Afro-Caribbean and Black learners, families and communities. The learning process in this course is guided by the following overarching inquiry question: How do school leaders reimagine schooling to better serve Black learners and communities?

Student Assessment and Evaluation

The Student Assessment and Evaluation Additional Qualification course will allow teachers to build on
their current assessment and evaluation practices through exploration of current assessment theories and
practices, Ontario education policies and principles, and critical reflection. Design and implementation of
assessment and evaluation practices will be strengthened through practical applications. In addition,
focus will be placed on culturally-responsive pedagogy, Indigenous pedagogy, and equity to support
learning and achievement for all students.

Mathematics, Grade 7/8

In this course learners will explore important considerations for instruction and assessment when
planning and teaching Grade 7 and Grade 8 math, including considerations for equity, diversity, and inclusion. This course
includes examples from the most recent research to support student progress and learning. There will be an opportunity to
engage with curriculum content, solve problems and explore evidence-based best-practice strategies and resources.

Addressing Anti-Black Racism To Change Pedagogy & Practice Part 1

Addressing Anti-Black Racism to Change Pedagogy and Practice, Part 1 (Addressing Anti-Black Racism AQ) seeks to challenge candidates' current understanding of pedagogy and practice by centering Black/Africentric ways of knowing and amplifying the lived experiences of Black students, families, and community members.  Through collaborative activities and deep reflective practices, this course employs Critical Race Theory, concepts of Blackness and Africentricity to support candidates to be immersed in ways of knowing that will support them in the work to address anti-Black racism in education

Special Education For Administrators

Special Education for Administrators prepares school and board system leaders to understand, address and support the needs of exceptional learners, with particular emphasis on anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion. While examining local, provincial, and federal policy, candidates will build a comprehensive understanding of the needs of exceptional learners so that they can foster an empowering special education program and system.

Mathematics Primary & Junior (P/J) Education, Specialist

The Mathematics Primary and Junior Specialist course will continue the learning from Part 1 and Part 2 to support you in the development of an inclusive learning community where all students can develop and grow as mathematicians. The focus of the course will be on deepening your understanding and facility with both math knowledge for teaching and pedagogical knowledge for teaching.

Mathematics Primary & Junior (P/J) Education Part 2

This course builds on the learning in Mathematics Primary & Junior Part I, and your knowledge and skills regarding the creation of a dynamic community of mathematicians in your classroom. Through your work in this course, you will develop a foundation of mathematics instruction and assessment based on equity, diversity, and inclusion. You will further develop your understanding of the use of continua and a developmental approach to learning and expand your understanding of planning responsively and with intention.

Teaching and Learning through E-Learning

This course was developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It provides practical online teaching strategies (for elementary and secondary) that are rooted in theory and will benefit educators today and in a post-Covid educational landscape. In their keystone project, candidates will apply these strategies to construct a mini-unit of online instruction for their grade and subject of choice. While candidates will examine and discuss various learning platforms, technology tutorials are not the focus of the course.
