The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) will invest a total of $3.4 million over 3 years to support the development of up to 6 place-based knowledge hubs supported at levels of $100,000-$300,000 per year (or $300,000 – $900,000 total over the three years).

CMN invites Letters of Intent (LOI) to be submitted, on or prior to January 20, 2021, by individuals and organizations willing to lead a place-based knowledge hub.

We encourage individuals and organizations considering submission of a LOI to request a contact list of potential contributors identified through the Expression of Interest (EOI) phase (completed November 6, 2020; EOI submission is not a requirement for LOI eligibility).

Connection Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Connection program.

These grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. These events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage with participants on research issues of value to them. Events and outreach activities funded by a Connection Grant can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.

Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

• disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the social sciences and humanities;
• scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
• intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
• international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.

Eurostars is a joint program co‑funded by national and regional funding bodies from 36 countries and the European Union. By participating, organizations can access public funding for international collaborative R&D projects.

In Canada, Eurostars is delivered through the National Research Council. Financial support:

Financial support may be provided to selected SMEs in Canada which are eligible for NRC IRAP assistance. Support for project partners varies according to funding eligibility in their respective countries.

The specific objective(s) of this funding opportunity are to:

• Support the development of structured, openly accessible and sustainable training and mentoring platforms that build capacity in areas of major health issues, scientific opportunities and critical gaps by:
  • Supporting the engagement of trainees and ECRs in collaborative research across institutions, disciplines, jurisdictions and sectors;
  • Incorporating diverse training approaches, including experiential training opportunities;
  • Including diverse and inclusive paradigms of research training and mentoring (e.g. Indigenous Ways of Knowing) in a meaningful and culturally-safe manner; and
  • Implementing recruitment, training, and mentoring strategies to attract high-caliber trainees and ECRs, including embedding and applying Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) best practices.
• Support the development of skills that increase the likelihood of employability and career prospects of trainees and ECRs across sectors, by integrating training on:
  • Approaches to advance rigorous and responsible research (e.g., sex- and gender-based analysis (SGBA), research data management, research involving Indigenous Peoples, ethics, unconscious bias);
  • Grant/proposal writing, budgeting, and peer review;
  • Professional development skills (including transferrable skills, such as communication, analytical thinking, problem solving, project management, leadership, etc.);
  • Best practices in knowledge translation and implementation science; and
  • Diverse career options and opportunities available across the different sectors (private/for profit, public and not-for-profit).

The Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program provides funding for strategic investments in the forest sector that:

• improve productivity and innovation
• enhance competitiveness
• support new market access
• provide benefits to Ontario’s broader forest sector
• strengthen regional economies

Support is available under two project categories:

• business projects
• collaboration projects

Eligibility

Business projects

Support is available for Ontario-based projects with at least $3 million in eligible costs undertaken by for-profit manufacturers and processors of wood and forest biomass across Ontario, including:

• saw mills
• pulp and paper mills
• secondary wood manufacturers
• bio-economy projects

Harvesting and resource extraction projects are not eligible for funding.

Collaboration projects

Support is available for Ontario-based projects with at least $3 million in eligible costs undertaken through a collaboration of:

• forest sector for-profit businesses
• not-for-profit research organizations
• forest industry associations
• academia

Eligible collaborations should develop, diversify and transform Ontario’s forest sector through innovation in technology, process or products.

A minimum of three partners are required (including at least one Ontario-based for-profit forestry/wood products company).

The KRESCENT program New Investigator Award is awarded to individuals who have clearly demonstrated excellence during their pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in kidney disease and provides salary support for up to three years of the faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent at a Canadian University. The purpose of this award is to support the investigator in becoming established as a fully independent investigator in the field of kidney disease.

The following services of the Sub Contractor are required: to conduct an observational study of the thermoregulatory, cardiovascular, and perceptual implications of varying soft armour torso coverage during physical activity under controlled environmental conditions.

Ontario is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Species at Risk Stewardship Program, as part of our ongoing commitment to help protect and recover species at risk and their habitats. The Species at Risk Stewardship Program promotes strong environmental stewardship by providing funding for species at risk protection and recovery projects by individuals, communities and groups across the province. 

Applications must be received through the Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON) portal by 3:00pm (ET) on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. All applicants will be required to create a ONe-key account in order to access TPON. Please sign up early; it may take up to 5 business days to be granted access.
