RISE-Globalink Research Internship (RISE-GRI)

How to Apply: 

Please distribute to faculty and undergraduates in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, earth sciences, and engineering.

Mitacs and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have partnered to offer the RISE-Globalink Research Internship (RISE-GRI), which offers undergraduate students at Canadian universities the opportunity to undertake summer research internships at eligible German institutions.

RISE-GRI pairs Canadian students with three-month projects supervised by PhD students in Germany.

  • Open to full-time undergraduates in biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences, or engineering (or a closely related field) who have completed at least two years of a four- or five-year program
    • Students in Quebec enrolled in a three-year undergraduate degree must have completed at least one year of their university program
  • Applications accepted until December 15, 2019. Students must apply through the RISE application portal.
  • Competitive opportunity — only top-ranked students are matched with projects
  • Projects must start between May 15 and July 9, 2020
  • Approved recipients receive $6,000 toward travel and accommodations

Expressions of interest for research on scaling the impact of educational innovations

Eligibility: 

This call is open to individual organizations or groups of up to four organizations working in a consortium located within and outside of Global Partnership for Education member countries. Organizations applying for this project can be non-profit or for-profit.

How to Apply: 

Scope

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and IDRC invite expressions of interest from individual organizations or consortia of up to four organizations to build knowledge and capacity on scaling the impact of educational innovations in GPE member countries.

The project funded out of this expression of interest will:

  1. design and lead action research on scaling across Knowledge and Innovation Exchange-funded projects;
  2. conduct additional research that engages multiple perspectives on the processes and critical success factors on scaling education innovations in GPE member countries; and
  3. use findings from this research to produce practical and conceptual guidance on scaling that balances quality, equity, efficiency, and sustainability for education systems and outcomes in developing country contexts.

The research component of the project should be guided by the following key question:

“How can educational innovations be designed, adapted, and scaled to improve education access and quality within GPE member countries while maintaining quality, equity, efficiency, and sustainability of their impacts and enabling transformative change of educational institutions?”

Catalyst Grant : Impacts of financial and organizational restructuring of public health

How to Apply: 

The Measuring the impacts of financial and organizational restructuring of public health opportunity is expected to:

  • Generate evidence on how changes to the funding, organization and/or delivery of public health services impact population health, health systems and health equity;
  • Improve data and methods for measuring the benefits, costs, harms and trade-offs of changes in public health funding, organization and /or delivery; and
  • Develop evidence that can be used to inform future decisions or policies related to public health resourcing and organization.

Prize : IHSPR Article of the Year Award

How to Apply: 

This award is intended to recognize published research in a peer-reviewed journal that has significantly contributed to the advancement of the field of health services and policy research in Canada. The research article must report on original research conducted by the author (commentaries and editorials will not considered). IHSPR will consider articles related to:

  • Research that demonstrates a clear impact or potential impact on policy, practice, or health outcomes (e.g., decision maker uptake, change management for improved practice);

    OR

  • Research that breaks ground in the way health services or policy research is conducted (e.g., innovations in methodology, novel theory or application of theory, new approaches to existing problems).

The CIHR-IPPH Trailblazer Award in Population and Public Health Research is a career achievement award that recognizes exceptional contributions in the area of population and public health research. Applicants must have made substantial impacts on the field of population health and its use in policy and/or practice in Canada and/or internationally. The award also recognizes the leadership, mentorship, and innovative contributions of the recipients.

The CIHR-IPPH will consider applications for this award that are determined to be relevant to the Institute mandate and in keeping with the Institute values of:

  • Coherent intersectoral action for population health improvements;
  • Scalable population health solutions; and
  • Equitable population health impacts.

Up to three awards will be given, for exceptional researchers at different career stages.

SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR Knowledge Synthesis Call on “Living Within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity” - Competition January 2020

How to Apply: 

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have launched a Knowledge Synthesis Grants competition to assess the state of research knowledge on the topic of “Living Within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity.

 

Living within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity is one of 16 new global future challenges identified through SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future initiative. All of the challenges cross multiple sectors and research disciplines, and require broad collaboration to address.

Tanaka Fund Program

How to Apply: 

The Tanaka Fund was established in 1974 as the result of an exchange of gifts between the governments of Canada and Japan. Canada offered $1,000,000 to Japan to promote Canadian studies in Japanese universities, while Japan provided 300 million yen for the enhancement of Japanese studies in Canadian universities. The funds were used to establish the “Japan Foundation Trust Fund for the Promotion of Japanese Studies in Canadian Universities”.

Annual value: A total of $50,000 is available for this year’s awards.

Value of grants: Grants up to a maximum of $10,000 are available

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada Grants-in-Aid of Research Competition

How to Apply: 

Crohn's and Colitis Canada is currently accepting applications for its 2020 Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIA) competition. The GIA program supports research on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This research program helps advance prevention, treatments, health policy and, ultimately find cures. Grants support research projects with a defined objective, conducted by an investigator working alone or in collaboration with others.

Research grants will be awarded for up to three years, at maximum $125,000 per year.

  • Submit a Notice of Intent to apply by 5:00 pm (EST), Friday, November 22, 2019.
  • Applicants who submit a Notice of Intent may then submit a Full Application by 5:00 pm (EST), Friday, January 17, 2020.
