Catalyst Grant: Crisis Line and App-based Support for Public Safety

How to Apply:

The overarching objective of this funding opportunity is to address the pressing needs of Public Safety Personnel (PSP) organizations and support service providers in providing effective and evidence-based supports for PSP experiencing  Post-Traumatic Stress Injuries (PTSI).

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

  • To contribute to the improved health of PSP with PTSI by generating relevant and timely evidence around the merit, validity, and appropriateness of the two targeted support systems identified through this program.
  • To assess the potential impacts of these two targeted support systems on PSP, including through novel and innovative research approaches directly using the core technologies/methodologies in place at the Research and Coordination hubs.
  • To contribute to the development of sustainable support systems for PSP by catalyzing research on potentially effective support models, and through the development of evidence summaries, best practices, and guidance documents for the targeted support models identified through this program.

Genomic Monitoring of Pathogens in Water: Community Coordination and Collaboration Hub (C3 Hub) Funding Opportunity

How to Apply:

Ontario Genomics is pleased to announce Genome Canada’s new targeted genomic initiative, Genomic Monitoring[1] of Pathogens in Water (GeMPaW), designed to strengthen, complement and add value to Canada’s existing pathogen monitoring efforts.

The Community Coordination and Collaboration Hub (C3 Hub) is the first of three key components that make up the GeMPaW initiative. It will act broadly as a connector, ensuring that data from monitoring antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and emerging pathogens (EPs) are used to inform public policy decisions.

Water sources to be monitored in GeMPaW include sewage, wastewater in treatment plants, saltwater, freshwater and groundwater.

Objective

The C3 Hub funding opportunity aims to support a single team that will work to enhance Canadian AMR/EP monitoring to support public health planning, decision-making and response and create operational structures and integrated processes to support genomic monitoring efforts across the country. The C3 Hub will support Genome Canada’s AMR/EP regional monitoring projects – expected to launch early 2024 – by developing and implementing a portfolio operation plan to synergize the deliverables of the regional projects toward broader national outcomes and impact.

Call for Collaborative Research Projects on the Brain

How to Apply:

Brain Canada and CQDM are joining forces to support interprovincial collaborative translational research and development (R&D) projects on the brain. This partnership creates a unique funding opportunity that brings together experts from academia and industry to support the development of platforms, tools and biopharmaceuticals that will pave the way for new advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders.

This award is intended for research teams with a minimum of two independent researchers, a principal investigator from a research institution in Quebec and an independent researcher from a research institution in another Canadian province. They must work in close collaboration with at least one Quebec small and medium-sized enterprise (SME).

The project’s budget must be between $500,000 and $2 million.

Alliance Consortia Quantum grants

How to Apply:

Proposals submitted in response to the present call must be for projects that require a large-scale coordinated approach, beyond any one of Canada’s regional quantum hubs, to develop and apply quantum technologies that will benefit Canada. Proposals may focus on areas of sectoral growth, or they may address major national challenges. They may span theory and experiment, and foster collaborations across quantum research areas.

Proposals may address any challenges in quantum science, but their thrust must aim to advance one or more of the NQS missions through the development of any of the following areas of quantum technologies, or a combination thereof:

  • quantum algorithms/encryption, including post-quantum cryptography
  • quantum communications
  • quantum computing
  • quantum materials
  • quantum sensing

Proposals may also synergistically couple any of these quantum technology thrusts to other research topics in the natural sciences and engineering.

Grant support ranges from $500,000 to $1 million per year, for a duration of three to five years. NSERC will provide support for 100% of the eligible costs of research. Although partner organizations do not need to provide cash contributions to participate, they must actively play a role in the project and support it through in-kind contributions. A broad range of in-kind contributions could be made toward a project; refer to the Partner organizations web page for additional information.
