Canada’s Global Forest Leadership Program supports forest sector international market diversification including market access through engagement and partnerships, and sharing Canadian expertise abroad.

This includes support for initiatives that contribute to advancing international forest policy, including those on climate, environment, biodiversity, sustainable forest management, the bioeconomy and wildland fire management; strengthening partnerships with like-minded organizations and countries through sharing expertise and forest stewardship assistance; and decreasing market barriers for sustainable forest products. As of April 1, 2026, this includes support for the development of innovative forest products and the expansion of international markets for Canadian producers.

The Global Forest Leadership Program promotes sustainable forest management globally and advances the interests of Canada’s forest sector abroad, including by:

  • Supporting international market development and diversification efforts for traditional, non-traditional and new forest products
  • Increasing Canada’s active engagement and contributions to international forest forums and initiatives
  • Working with like-minded partners and demonstrating leadership in support of the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use
  • Working with domestic partners to raise Canada’s domestic awareness of international forest policy trends, and to test and promote new forest management approaches that respond to the changing expectations of the international market
  • Strengthening Canada’s collaboration and approach to forest sector leadership with international and domestic partners
  • Providing practical and concrete responses to international requests for wildland fire and forest stewardship assistance

Canada’s Global Forest Leadership Program launched an anticipatory Call for Proposals for funding projects that support diversification of Canada’s forest sector markets and products.
