Convening the Canadian Meta-Research Community Connection Grant
Research on research, also known as metaresearch, is the application of rigorous methods and analysis to the practice of research itself—its methods, standards and evaluation. While metaresearch projects may be focused on a specific discipline, findings are usually transferable to other domains or fields.
Over the past three years, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has engaged in several initiatives to build metaresearch capacity in Canada and to enable Canadian metaresearchers to join the international conversation. These initiatives have brought to the forefront the breadth and diversity of the growing meta-research community in Canada.
To build on this momentum, SSHRC wishes to award two Connection Grants to convene the Canadian metaresearch community. The proposed event or outreach activity should foster collaboration across disciplines, regions and institutions, and develop strategies to enhance metaresearch and its application in Canada.
The specific objectives of this special funding opportunity are as follows:
- Bring together researchers, policy-makers, and/or stakeholders in metaresearch from diverse research fields across Canada to enable knowledge sharing and relationship building. Collaboration across regions and institutions in organizing the gathering is encouraged.
- Advance coordination and collaboration in Canadian metascience through the development of a roadmap, gap analysis, research agenda or other output.
- Advance the relevance and application of Canadian metascience to research and research-funding policy and practice in Canada.
