NOHFC Presentation

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC)  recently introduced a new suite of programs:  Strategic Economic Infrastructure, Northern Community Capacity Building, Northern Innovation, Northern Business Opportunity and Northern Ontario Internship.  These new grants replace NOHFC's previous programs.

In order to provide information to researchers on the NOHFC's new program architecture, Peter Benz, Northern Development Advisor, Ministry of Northern Development & Mines, Thunder Bay, will be presenting an information session for Lakehead University faculty members in AT1005 on November 20 from 9:30am to 11:00am.

Faculty members are encouraged to attend this session as it will provide valuable information on these new programs.  Please contact Andrew Hacquoil at ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca by November 15 if you are able to attend this session.

SSHRC Insight Development Grant Information Session

Please note that there will be a SSHRC Insight Development Grant information session on November 15, 2013 in AT3004 from 10-12.  The session will be presented by Office of Research Services staff along with Dr. Lisa Korteweg, Faculty of Education, a Lakehead University faculty member with grant selection committee experience.  The session will provide an overview of the SSHRC Insight Development Grant program along with insights about the grant review process.

NSERC Discovery Grant Information Session

Please note that there will be an NSERC Discovery Grant information webinar on September 5, 2013 in AT5035 from 10-12.  The session will be presented by an NSERC program officer from Ottawa via video conference.  The session will provide an overview of NSERC news along with insights about the grant review process, and how to prepare an effective Discovery Grant application.

Dedicated NSERC Research Portal and CCV Webinar: June 27

In addition to the NSERC Research Community Engagement webinar on June 26, faculty members working on their Discovery Grant NOIs and NSERC Common CVs are also strongly encouraged to participate in the "dedicated" webinar on June 27 from 1-2:30 in ATAC 5036 devoted primarily to NSERC's Research Portal and the Common CV.

Community Engagement Visits: Invitation to NSERC Webinar June 26

NSERC is conducting a series of community engagement visits to provide researchers, students and other stakeholders with an opportunity to learn more about some recent program and policy developments. These visits will also serve as a platform for the community to ask questions and seek more information from some of NSERC's grants and scholarships experts.

Key Topics will include:

o          Common CV & new Research Portal
o          Harmonization of the Canada Graduate Scholarships
o          Five-year Evaluation of the Discovery Grants Program
o          Changes to the Post Doctorate Fellowships Timelines
o          Allocation of Discovery Grants Budget Among Evaluation Groups

NSERC CCV/Research Portal Workshop

In order to help faculty members submitting a Form 180 (Intent to Apply for a Discovery Grant) in this year's competition make the transition to NSERC's new Common CV and Research Portal, the Office of Research Services is offering a special workshop on June 10 in AT3003 from 10-12.  Andrew Hacquoil, Research Grants Officer, will provide an overview of the following:

1.  Completing Form 180 using the Research Portal.

2.  Completing the NSERC Common CV.

3.  Linking your Common CV to Form 180.

Any questions/concerns that Andrew is not able to answer at the workshop will be forwarded to NSERC for answers.  Faculty members interested in attending the workshop are asked to please send an e-mail to Andrew Hacquoil (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) no later than June 3.
