"Congratulations and farewell to Simranpreet Badesha who has just passed her MA Sociology with Specilization in Women's Studies. Sim is moving to British Colunbia where she will begin her PhD in Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies at Simon Fraser in the fall. Dr. Pam Wakewich will be presenting on the Anishinaabek Cervical Cancer Screening Study at the Cervical Cancer Prevention in Northern Indigenous Communities workshop in Winnipeg, MB, April 20 and 21. The national workshop will bring together interdisciplinary health researchers, local experts and knowledge users to discuss gaps in current knowledge and ways of enhancing community engagement and collaboration in HPV and cervical cancer research in the north.

Former Student Pursues her Dream

Congratulations to Kelsey Meagher, former Women's Studies student, who has been accepted to the competitive M.Sc Audiology at the University of British Columbia! Kelsey has wanted to be an audiologist since she began University, and the Department wishes her all the best as she pursues her great opportunity!

Lori Chambers gives two successful talks!

On March 6th Lori gave a talk at the Future History of Welfare Conference at the University of Trent. Her presentation focused on Indigenous children and child welfare law. On March 27th, Lori attended the Community Knowledge Alliance meeting in Toronto, whose theme this year was "Sexual Assault on Campus: Activism and Accountability at U of T and Beyond", to speak about sexual assault policy on campus!

Congratulations to Jordan Lehto on being selected as part of the 10x10 showcase!

Jordan Lehto's play based on his graduate research will be performed in Thunder Bay at the 10x10 showcase. His research was on gay men's experiences in high schools in Thunder Bay in the post World War II period. The play is called "People Like You." Dr. Jane Nicholas Speaks at the University of Lethbridge

Congratulations to Dr. Wakewich on her recent publication

Dr. Wakewich and the team of the Anishinaabek Cervical Cancer Screening Study (ACCSS), have been published in Health Care for Women International. Thier article, "Strategies for Increasing Cervical Cancer Amongst First Nations Communities in Norwest Ontario, Canada" is now available via the DOI 10.1080/07399332.2014.959168.
