Advanced Water & Wastewater Laboratory

Dr. Baoqiang Liao's Research Laboratory aims to development of next generation cutting-edge water and wastewater purification technologies. Of particular interest are the membrane-based biotechnologies (i.e. membrane bioreactors) for wastewater treatment and resources recovery from both municipal and industrial wastewaters. Fundamental studies on the engineering sciences of innovative MBR technologies are conducted in small pilot-scale systems.

Modelling studies of the innovative and emerging MBR technologies are another focus of the research laboratory to develop powerful mathematical tools to predict and optimize the design and operation of emerging MBRs. Furthermore, optimization of existing drinking water and wastewater treatment plants is conducted through both experimental and modelling studies to improve process efficiency, reduce operation cost, and save energy.
