Lakehead University's recently established Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Mining and Exploration (CESME) is holding a conference, "The Role of Government Policy in Sustainable Mining Development", December 5-6, 2013, at Lakehead University (University Centre 1017).

A range of speakers from across Canada, including First Nations, government, industry and non-governmental organizations, will explore public policy that promotes sustainable mining development. Conference participants will discuss policy recommendations to inform future policy development in mining in northern Ontario, particularly the Ring of Fire.
