Killam Prize
How to Apply:
The Killam Prizes are intended to honour distinguished Canadian scholars who have been engaged in research in universities, hospitals, research or scientific institutes, or other similar institutions.
Normally, one (1) prize is awarded each year in each of five (5) disciplines. They are awarded annually, on a competitive basis, for research done in any of the following disciplines:
- humanities
- social sciences
- natural sciences
- health sciences
- engineering

Dorothy Killam Fellowships
How to Apply:
The Dorothy Killam Fellowships provide support to scholars of exceptional ability by granting them time to pursue research projects of broad significance and widespread interest within the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering or studies linking any of these disciplines.
A Dorothy Killam Fellow is a leading researcher whose superior, ground-breaking, best-in-class research stands to have significant impact on a national or global scale. A Fellow is someone who also reflects some of the Killam attributes:
- Inclusive collaborator
- Barrier breaker
- Research leader
The Dorothy Killam Fellowships support scholars who:
- demonstrate commitment to building Canada’s future and alignment with Killam attributes
- are mid-career researchers who usually completed their PhD no more than 15 years prior, though special circumstances may result in applicants being more or less than 15 years post-PhD.
- are employed at a Canadian research institution.
Applicants must complete the online application form, and provide the following documents while adhering to the indicated maximum word count and page number in English or French, by 23:59 (applicant’s local time) on May 22, 2025.
Please note: To facilitate expert review, a preliminary research abstract is now required and must be submitted through the portal by April 30, 2025. Applicants will have the opportunity to provide an updated research abstract at the time of submission.
As a Dorothy Killam Fellowship recipient is relieved of teaching and administrative duties for the period of the fellowship, researchers interested in this fellowship are required to contact the Office of Research (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) far in advance of the program deadline to indicate their interest in applying to the program.

Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship
How to Apply:
Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellows are leading researchers whose superior, ground-breaking, best-in-class research stands to have significant impact on a national or global scale. A Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellow embodies one or more of the Killam attributes:
- Inclusive collaborator
- Barrier breaker
- Research leader
The Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship is intended to:
- enable new and potentially disruptive technologies to be developed with industry, academics and government;
- strengthen collaborations with industry, academia, and various levels of government to attain critical mass for addressing national issues of importance to the Canadian economy and quality of life for Canadians;
- find solutions to some of the most serious public policy challenges; and
- create stronger innovation ecosystems in specific sectors by enabling industry, academics, and government labs to partner with NRC researchers, leveraging NRC facilities and resources, and share knowledge.

Laura Bassi Scholarship
How to Apply:
The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. The scholarships are open to every discipline and are awarded three times per year: December, April, and August. The value of the scholarship is remitted solely through editorial assistance as follows:
- Master’s candidates: $750
- Doctoral candidates: $2,500
- Junior academics: $500
These figures reflect the upper bracket of costs of editorial assistance for master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, and academic journal articles, respectively. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of full-time employment. There are no institutional, departmental, or national restrictions.

How to Apply:
These grants provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. In addressing an organization-specific need, challenge and/or opportunity, these partnerships let non-academic organizations and postsecondary researchers access each other’s unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.

Idea to Innovation Grants
How to Apply:
The objective of Idea to Innovation (I2I) grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector, and to promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. I2I grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.
