This call is soliciting new tools and technologies that have potential i) to overcome the technical barriers in working with Cryptosporidium that have historically hampered progress, and ii) to improve our ability to develop and translate active compounds into effective therapies for treatment of pediatric cryptosporidiosis. The goal of this call is to develop broadly applicable approaches that can be used to accelerate development of therapeutic interventions, rather than to support the development of specific interventions themselves.

This call is soliciting concepts for contraceptive discovery platforms that can contribute to development of new methods suitable for women or men living in limited resource settings. Such platforms will be essential to support the foundation’s efforts to develop new methods that would be safe and effective for long-term regular use, in the form of injectables, implants, or regular oral contraception. We are not looking for new injectable formulations or implants using existing agents, nor are we looking for methods that could only practically lead to intermittent “on-demand” or pericoital use (e.g., vaginal gels). Proposed research plans should align with this goal. Importantly, research proposed for funding should not be focused on a particular experimental agent, but rather on development and validation of a set of tools and technologies to address technical limitations in this field and that could be subsequently applied to a broader drug discovery and development program. While research related to a specific drug target or target class may be warranted if justification is provided, applications with a broader scope will be viewed favorably.

The goal of this call is to support the generation of primary knowledge and evidence to improve our understanding of needs, preferences and behaviors among specific groups of contraceptive users and non-users, including service providers, to inform the design and development of innovations in family planning methods. We seek proposals that are novel, well-designed and that will provide robust and reliable data; creative, cost-effective approaches to data collection will be regarded positively. Proposals should include a description of how the results could be applied to the eventual design or development of new contraceptive technologies that enhance family planning access, demand or acceptance and provide for sustained use.

The Small Research Grants program aims to support smaller scale or pilot research projects that have budgets of $50,000 or less. Proposals are encouraged from scholars across a variety of disciplines in an effort to fund field-initiated education research

The broad purpose of this fund is to encourage Canadian academics to undertake projects of relevance to accounting academic or professional communities. The research under this program need not lead to publication in a scholarly journal, although it may lead to one or more such publications. The research project may result in a report that is both useful to practitioners and provides background in an area that could be the subject of further academic exploration.

AGE-WELL and the Alzheimer Society of Canada are teaming up to support emerging researchers through a funding opportunity for postdoctoral fellows.

The funding partners, AGE-WELL and the Alzheimer Society Research Program, will co-fund up to two postdoctoral fellows over two years.

The candidate’s supervisor must be working within an existing AGE-WELL Workpackage or Crosscutting activity and their project must align with the research program of AGE-WELL.

The overarching goal of this funding opportunity is to provide timely assessment of health effects and/or interventions to mitigate the harms and impact of the threat posed by the Alberta wildfires and evacuation, by building on Canada’s emerging expertise in disaster medicine and health research response. In addition, the funding opportunity seeks to:

• Examine the physical, emotional and other health consequences on those affected by the Alberta wildfires with a focus on resiliency;
• Generate evidence about novel or existing actions undertaken in health and/or other sectors to help those affected by the Alberta wildfires;
• Adapt existing knowledge from other jurisdictions for implementation in the Alberta context for immediate impact on Albertans affected by the wildfires;
• Catalyze new and existing collaborations with community, not-for-profit, private and/or public sectors within and outside of health;
• Facilitate consideration and application of new evidence about population health actions (interventions) related to natural disasters in decision-making

Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) is seeking applications for Round 3 of its MSc Pop program, a program that supports early-stage, ground-breaking medical science research projects.

Under the Medical Sciences Proof-of-Principle (MSc PoP) program, applicants are eligible for up to $70,000 for commercialization activities. New industry matching cash contributions are required.

The MSc PoP program helps commercialize intellectual property (IP) related to promising life sciences and medical technology developed at Ontario publicly funded academic research institutions (universities, colleges, and research hospitals). The goal is to deliver economic benefits to Ontario, including sales and jobs, through newly created Ontario-based companies founded on this IP, or by licensing the IP to an existing Ontario-based company.
