RTO Foundation Grants

How to Apply:
The RTOERO Foundation awards grants between $10,000 to $50,000 to projects that aim to improve seniors’ health and wellness, promote social engagement for older adults and/or pursue innovative research in the field of geriatrics and gerontology.

The RTOERO Foundation reviews grant applications once or twice annually, in the spring and/or fall. Applicants should review the guidelines and requirements as well as timing and deadlines outlined on this page before applying for funding.

The RTOERO Foundation grant application process consists of four stages:

  • Letter of Intent (LOI): Applicant will be asked to provide a project summary, some detail regarding outputs, as well as a draft budget and schedule (LOI approximately 750 words). A submitted LOI will be evaluated based on adherence with the foundation’s objectives and funding criteria. If the project summary as articulated in the LOI meets all requirements, the applicant will be invited to submit a full proposal.
  • Proposal: Applicant is responsible for completing and submitting all the required detail of their project proposal (approximately 3,000 words), on or before the stated deadline. Applicant will also be asked to attach a detailed budget and workplan.
  • Committee review: Our peer-review committee will assess proposals and make recommendations for funding.
  • Final approval: Funding recommendations are brought to the RTOERO Foundation board of directors for final approval.

Applicants are encouraged to review our funding requirements in detail prior to submitting a letter of intent.

Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grant (SSTSG)

How to Apply:

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grants (SSTSG) 2022-23 from SICI’s Canadian and Indian Member Institutions in good standing. SSTSG assists faculty members, doctoral and/or post-doctoral students with travel subsidies to participate in conferences, workshops, seminars and academic meetings in alternate partner countries (India or Canada) that are intended to establish institutional and scholarly linkages.

There will be only one award per institution.  The travel subsidy from SICI is CAD 1,500. Ttravel for the purpose of research collaboration will be eligible to apply for a matching grant (1,500) from the Office of the VPRI, for a combined travel award of CAD 3,000.   Faculty members, PhD and Post-doctoral fellows are eligible.

Key objectives of SSTSG are:

  • Facilitate enhancing personal and professional growth of participating scholars and institutions;
  • Facilitate promoting academic linkages between India and Canada.

Please note the following points:

  • Institutions may receive only one SSTSG award, and receipt of the award is subject to the institution being a SICI member in good standing with fully paid-up membership for the current year (2022-23);
  • An individual who was awarded an SSTSG may not receive another Travel Subsidy Grant until at least one (1) year has passed. For example, an individual who received an SSTSG in 2019-20 (last SSTSG program year before COVID 19 travel disruptions) will not be eligible to apply for this year’s grant (2022-23).
  • Selected SSTSG awardees will have two weeks to confirm their acceptance of the grant (subject to their institution’s eligibility);
  • Any declined SSTSG or availability of surplus funds may result in the award of grants among any of the wait-listed applications, subject to the application of other rules of SICI which allows benefits to be more broadly distributed among its members;
  • SSTSG funds will be released to the recipients’ institutions upon receipt of the scholar’s final report.
