Canada Postdoctoral Research Award Program (NSERC)
The Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) program supports and promotes research excellence in a wide variety of disciplines and broad fields of health, natural sciences and engineering and social sciences and humanities, including interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. This support allows postdoctoral researchers to add to their experience by engaging in research either in Canada or outside of Canada and facilitates their transition to the next phase of their career.
Faculty members who will be supporting a candidate for a CPRA should be aware of the following as well: Candidates who are successful in securing a CPRA are considered by Lakehead University as being postdoctoral award recipients.
For postdoctoral fellow award recipients, in addition to the PDF award fellowship, Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs) in the amount of 2.5% must also be paid. However, please note that paying the 2.5% from the fellowship itself is not allowed in the case of Tri-agency postdoctoral awards and in such cases, the required 2.5% must be covered by the Lakehead supervisor using an eligible grant, or another source. Therefore, Lakehead University faculty members should be aware of this potential commitment/cost when agreeing to take on a CPRA applicant.
