The Low Carbon Innovation Fund is a fund to help researchers, entrepreneurs and companies create and commercialize new, globally competitive, low-carbon technologies that will help Ontario meet its GHG emissions reductions targets. The Low Carbon Innovation Fund is part of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan and is funded by proceeds from the province's carbon market.

The Technology Validation stream will provide up to 75% of a project’s expenses to eligible Ontario companies (per project), and up to 95% to eligible academic organizations (per project) to fund proof-of-concept and prototyping projects. The maximum contribution from the Province is $5 million. The Applicant and/or its partners must provide the remainder of the funding.

For 2017-2018, to be considered for a Technology Validation Stream grant,
Applicants must:
• Complete an online Eligibility Assessment (EA) to confirm their eligibility
and readiness for the LCIF program for Ministry review;
• If approved for eligibility by the Ministry, submit a Technology Validation
Stream Business Case through the online system.

Potential applicants must submit an Eligibility Assessment and will be notified by ministry staff if they are eligible to submit a Business Case.

The Technology Validation Stream will allow for eligibility assessments to be submitted beginning on November 15th with a submission deadline of December 10th at 11:59 PM. Ministry staff will endeavour to provide a response to within 3 Business Days. The EA instructions include a link to a PDF version of the Business Case inputs to enable applicants to work offline on the Business Case in advance of having online access as of December 14, 2017. On December 14, eligible applicants will be sent a link to complete the Business Case submission through the online portal.

The Technology Validation Business Case submission deadline is January 7th at 11:59 PM.

AIMM Research Award

• Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)
• Supports highly creative and conceptually innovative high-risk research with the potential to accelerate critical discoveries or major advancements that will significantly impact military health and medicine.
• Supports novel research concepts and development of enabling technologies.
• Supports applied research efforts that initiate or enhance potential game-changers; clinical trials are not allowed.

·         Impact and Innovation are important aspects of the AIMM initiative.

·         Projects proposed should be relevant to at least one DoD medical research program area.  However, broadly applicable research projects with the potential to benefit multiple DoD medical research program areas are encouraged. 

·         Applications using synthetic or systems biology-based approaches are highly encouraged.

• Pre-application (Letter of Intent) is required.

·         Maximum funding of $350,000 for direct costs (plus indirect costs).

• Maximum period of performance is 18 months.

A pre-application (Letter of Intent) is required and must be submitted through the electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal (eBRAP) at https://eBRAP.org prior to the pre-application deadline.  All applications must conform to the final Program Announcement and General Application Instructions available for electronic downloading from the Grants.gov website at https://www.grants.gov/.  The application package containing the required forms for each award mechanism are found on Grants.gov.  A listing of all USAMRMC funding opportunities can be obtained on the Grants.gov website by performing a basic search using CFDA Number 12.420.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has issued a call for proposals under its 2018-2019 Contributions Program, which funds independent privacy research and related knowledge translation initiatives.

The Office is inviting research and knowledge translation applications that advance its strategic privacy priorities.

In addition, the OPC is particularly interested in funding research or knowledge translation projects that aim to promote the development and adoption of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs).

This year, the OPC is increasing the maximum amount that can be allocated to a single project to $100,000. A maximum of $450,000 is being made available to applicants under the present call.

All proposals must be submitted by January 16, 2018.

State of Evidence on Relapse Prevention and Implications for Self-Excluded Breaching

GREO is now accepting applications for development of a current state of evidence review to support an up to date overview of existing literature in the area of relapse prevention and implications for self-excluded breaching.  Applicants are asked to consider strategies both within the gambling field as well as other addictions. 

 Eligibility

• This solicitation is open to researchers from Canada and elsewhere.
• Applications from both public and private sector researchers are welcome.

The W. Garfield Weston Foundation is sponsoring up to four postdoctoral fellowships, valued at $50,000 each, for those pursuing research in the natural sciences with a focus on the Canadian North. This fellowship includes up to an additional $10,000 in support for conference and northern travel expenses.

Partnership Development Grant proposals are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight program or the objectives of the Connection program, or a combination thereof. Please see the Insight and Connection program descriptions for more details.

Partnership Development Grants provide support over one to three years to teams/partnerships, led by a project director, to:

• develop research and related activities in the social sciences and humanities, including knowledge mobilization and the meaningful involvement of students and new scholars, by fostering new partnerships for research and related activities involving existing and/or potential partners; or
• design and test new partnership approaches for research and/or related activities that may result in best practices or models that either can be adapted by others or have the potential to be scaled up to a regional, national or international level.

Partnership funding is intended for teams working in formal collaboration between postsecondary institutions and/or organizations of various types.

Connection Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Connection program. They support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. These events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage on research issues of value to those participating. Events and outreach activities funded by a Connection Grant may often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects potentially eligible for funding through other SSHRC funding opportunities listed in SSHRC's Funding search tool.

Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

• disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the humanities and social sciences;
• scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
• intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the humanities and social sciences and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
• international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.
