The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is excited to launch a new funding competition through the ministry’s Health System Research Fund. The Targeted Call for Patient-Oriented Research in Mental Health and Addictions will support 24-month grants of up to $250,000 per year for research with the potential to improve Ontario’s mental health and addictions system.

Grants funded through this competition should demonstrate strong partnership with people with lived experience throughout the entirety of research project: from project conception and writing of the grant application through governance, implementation, data analysis and interpretation, and knowledge translation and exchange.

Grant applications will be reviewed not only by scientific peer-reviewers, but also by people with lived experience and sector experts.

A mandatory Notice of Intent must be submitted by February 20, 2018, with Full Applications due March 14, 2018.

The NCE-KM initiative funds networks dedicated to transferring knowledge to those who can put it into practice. It supports collaborations between knowledge producers and knowledge users from various disciplines, sectors and institutions, including industry, government, not-for-profit organizations and various sources and types of knowledge for the social, economic, technological, and/or wellness benefit of Canada and the Canadian population. Networks focus on addressing key problems, challenges and opportunities of high strategic importance to Canada.

NCE-KM networks are expected to create social and/or economic benefits through the application of evidence-based knowledge generated from research in combination with other sources and types of knowledge. The program supports networks pursuing knowledge translation along the entire spectrum: from the range of activities encompassed in knowledge mobilization (creation of activities and tools designed to put knowledge into active service, often through the establishment of new or modification of existing policies, processes and standards) to those encompassed in commercialization (the transformation of knowledge or technology into marketable goods, processes or services).

Applicant Eligibility

Applications must be submitted by one or more researchers who are eligible to apply for funding under the policies and guidelines of at least one of the three federal granting councils. All applications must be co-led by a non-academic knowledge user as a co-applicant with an academic researcher.

his call is open to applicant organizations that will work in partnership with others to carry out research in one (or more) of the eligible countries:

• Burundi;
• Ethiopia; 
• Kenya;
• Malawi;
• Mozambique;
• Rwanda;
• Tanzania;
• Uganda;
• Zambia; and
• Zimbabwe.

Applicant organizations must be developing country organizations (national agricultural research systems, universities, government departments, NGOs, regional organizations, and Southern-led international organizations) with legal corporate registration in an eligible country. They may work in partnership with Canadian or Australian organizations, but this is not a requirement.

Scope

This call will support cutting edge applied field and/or laboratory research projects with the potential to generate high impact and innovative results with particular impact on the food insecure and poor in eligible eastern and southern African countries. All projects require a sound environmental impact assessment, the consideration of social and gender issues, and an applicability to smallholder farmers. The projects should address real practical development challenges and research needs of the 10 developing countries.

The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants  is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I Grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

The Law Foundation of Ontario invites applications for its Community Leadership in Justice Fellowships for the 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 academic terms. Fellows are senior employees of public interest organizations and are funded to spend a period of time within an academic year in residence at an Ontario university or law school, or at an Ontario community college.

The Foundation seeks to build knowledge and connections, support innovation, and act as a catalyst in service of improving access to justice.

Responsive grants are provided to eligible organization for time-limited projects that fall within the Foundation’s mandate. 

Responsive grants create an opportunity for organizations to identify access to justice needs and propose projects to address those needs including but not limited to: start-ups; pilot projects; and innovative initiatives.

Major grants - up to $100,000 (one application cycle per year)

The Responsive Grants Program enables The Law Foundation of Ontario to fund ideas generated by nonprofit community groups to improve access to justice. These grants have provided seed funding for hundreds of innovative projects across Ontario.

The CFN Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program goes beyond traditional academic and clinical training opportunities by offering enriched experiential learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

CFN will contribute a maximum of 50% of the Fellowship funding and applicants must confirm within their application a partner that has agreed to provide at least matching funds in cash. All funding must be paid as Fellow stipends only.

Intent to apply due January 29.

CFN's Summer Student Program has been designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary summer experience, which that will allow participants to develop a frame of reference for examining health and social care experiences for Canada's older adults living with frailty.

Funding

Funding of up to $4,000 each is available, with at least 100% in guaranteed matching funds required from the student's supervisor. Both must be paid as student salary and benefits only.  Up to 10 students will be funded in this competition.

Deadlines:

A Pre-Application Intent to Apply is required for this competition by 12 noon ET on Monday, January 29, 2018. Applications will not be considered unless this Intent to Apply is received electronically using the online form by the deadline. Full Application Packages are due Monday, February 12, 2018 by 12 noon ET.

Partnership Engage Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight program and the Connection program. They provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through the Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. In addressing an organization-specific need, challenge and/or opportunity, these partnerships let non-academic organizations and postsecondary researchers access each other’s unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.
