Description: The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan – New Zealand offers scholarships to Canadians for study or research at the PhD level that lead to a degree at a university in New Zealand.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is offering "Taiwan Fellowship" for scholars and researchers to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. The application process will begin in May 2018. The successful applicants will begin their research in Taiwan in January 2019.

The researches subjects should be related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, the Asia-Pacific region and Sinology. Eligible candidates include professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of universities, or research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions.

The Government of Canada is currently accepting applications from eligible applicants interested in receiving grant funding up to $100,000 from the Enabling Accessibility Fund for small projects. This Fund supports the capital costs of construction, renovation and/or retrofit activities in workplace^s and communities, as well as the provision of accessible technologies in:

• Workplace stream: facilities where people with disabilities work, or could work in the future; and,
• Community Accessibility stream: community spaces where programs and/or services are offered, or will be offered, to people with disabilities.

Notes:

• Funded projects are expected to begin in spring 2019.
• Eligible organizations can submit a maximum of one (1) Application for Funding per stream (Workplace and Community Accessibility Streams). If your organization chooses to submit two applications, one per stream, you must submit two separate Applications for Funding. If your organization has multiple offices/departments or sectors under a single Canada Revenue Agency business number, the limit of one application per stream is important to remember. Such organizations might include: school boards, dioceses (multiple churches under one diocese); municipalities (with various departments such as Parks & Recreation, Traffic, etc.) or some social organizations such as the YM/YWCA.
• To determine the funding stream under which to apply, pay careful attention to the objectives below and eligibility requirements and select the one that best suits your project.

Since organizations are limited to the number of applications they can submit, interested applicants must notify the Office of Research Services (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) by June 15 of their intention to apply to this funding opportunity.

In 2018/19, MEOPAR will offer three Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards. The purpose of these awards is to bring new postdoctoral fellows into the network to connect them with MEOPAR-funded researchers and HQP. Proposed research activities that would be supported by an Award must address MEOPAR’sorganizational objective (To connect partners, resources and expertise to prepare for risks and take advantage of opportunities in the changing marine environment), and must be linked to one of MEOPAR’s four challenge areas: Ocean Observation; Forecasting/Projection; Coastal Resilience; and Marine Operations/ Transportation. Refer to MEOPAR’s Strategic Plan for more information.

Awards will supplement existing funding support awarded to promising new scholars. To be considered for a MEOPAR Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, funding applicants must:

• Receive a base level of financial support ($40,000) from additional sources: home department, supervisor research grants, and/or through government and agency scholarships or awards;
• Demonstrate support from their supervisor for their work and their proposed use of the award funds;
• Participate full‐time in their respective program at a Canadian post-secondary institution that is eligible for Tri-Council funding; and
• Engage in research aligned with the strategic plan of MEOPAR.

The AV R&D Partnership Fund (Stream 2) contributes 50 per cent of eligible project costs for approved projects up to a maximum of $1,000,000, with the remainder contributed by a minimum 1:1 cash match from Applicants and/or Partners. Project funding can be used towards the development and demonstration of technologies in the Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) sector, in the following Priority Areas:

• Mass light vehicles (e.g., cars, trucks and vans)
• Heavy duty vehicles (including commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, RVs and others used for goods movement)
• Transportation infrastructure
• Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
• Transit-supportive systems and vehicles

Eligible Partners are:

• Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
• National and Multi-National Enterprises (NEs and MNEs)
• Publicly-funded Post-Secondary Academic Institutions
• Municipalities
• Indigenous Communities
• Not-For-Profit Organizations

The Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP) funds downstream research and development (R&D) projects that address real world opportunities and challenges defined by “Receptor” organizations such as industry, government, or not-for-profit entities. These organizations should be committed to commercializing or implementing the outcomes of the project.

Projects are led by the Receptor organization (Canadian or international) but are active collaborations with a Canadian academic researcher. These projects are co-funded by Receptors and other stakeholders and must have the potential to generate significant social and/or economic benefits for Canada.

A limited number of Travel Awards to PhD or MD/PhD students, and post-doctoral/medical/clinical fellows are available. The purpose of this program is to defray the travel costs associated with making a scientific presentation as a first author or presenter at a conference, symposium or other appropriate professional meeting.
