Health Sciences Professor - Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular Disease

The research of Dr. Lily Wu, Professor, Department of Health Sciences, and Researcher at the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI), was recently profiled in the Chronicle Journal.  Dr. Wu is a leader in research focused on the causes and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

A member of Dr. Wu's research team is Samuel Stevenson, a student in the Master of Public Health program at Lakehead University.

Faculty and MPH Graduate Publish Protocol

Together with their colleagues, Dr. Carol Cancelliere, a 2011 graduate of the Master of Public Health program; Dr. J. David Cassidy, Adjunct Faculty, Department of Health Sciences; and Dr. Vicki Kristman, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Sciences, have published their protocol for systematic review of prognosis after mild traumatic brain injury.

New Graduate Program - Master of Health Sciences

Beginning in September 2012, the Department of Health Sciences will offer a full-time, on-campus, thesis-based Master of Health Sciences degree - the only Master of Health Sciences program between Winnipeg and Southern Ontario. The program's northern location and faculty research in the area of vulnerable population health count among its strengths and innovative features.

Program and curriculum approval for the Master of Health Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences is pending.  Formal applications are not yet being accepted, but please direct inquiries to the Department of Health Sciences. Further information will be forwarded as it becomes available.

MPH Graduate conducts research in Guatemala

Ms. Hilary Wren is a 2009 graduate of the Master of Public Health program at Lakehead University, and was supervised by Dr. Lori Chambers for her Master's thesis.  Now a doctoral student at McGill University, Hilary is currently conducting research on breastfeeding for her doctoral thesis in Guatemala.

Her goal, following completion of her Ph.D., is to return to Ontario and work in the field of Maternal and Child public health.

World Breastfeeding Week began August 1; Canada observes National Breastfeeding Week in October.
