Academic Regulations

It is the responsibility of each student registered at Lakehead University to be familiar with, and comply with all the terms, requirements, regulations, policies and conditions in the Lakehead University Academic Calendar. This includes, but is not limited to, Academic Program Requirements, Academic Schedule of Dates, Fees and Refund Policies, Schedules, and the regulations pertaining to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences and specific to the School of Nursing:

Temporary Interruption of Studies

After completing 1 year of their studies (part-time or full-time), Undergraduate Nursing students may remain unregistered for up to one academic year without being required to reapply to the program. There is no formal Leave of Absence process for undergraduate Nursing students.

Students must register in the next available academic term following the one-year period of non-registration. Students who remain unregistered for more than 1 year must reapply to the Nursing program and will be subject to the academic regulations and program requirements in effect at the time of readmission.

Students planning to interrupt their studies must contact the Nursing Undergraduate Programs Officer for academic advising. Students returning after an interruption must notify the School of Nursing (Undergraduate Programs Officer for Nursing). Course sequencing and clinical placement availability may affect a student’s return.

Relevant Regulations:

University General Regulations, section (e): Students in the School of Nursing are required to reapply after one year of non-registration.
School of Nursing Regulations, section 10 – Time Limit: Students must complete their program within 6 years. Students who interrupt their program sequencing should seek academic advice, must notify the School of Nursing before returning, and cannot be guaranteed a clinical rotation following an interruption.
