Immunization Requirements
You must provide documented proof of the following immunizations as part of your clinical documentation package:
- All standard childhood immunizations required in Canada, including Polio.
- If you have never been vaccinated for Polio - this is a 3-dose series given at 0 months, 1-2 months, and 6 months following the second dose.
- Varicella (Chickenpox): Proof of two Varicella vaccinations or a serology report (blood work) showing immunity.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Proof of two full MMR vaccinations or a serology report (blood work) showing immunity.
- Tetanus: A Tetanus vaccination within the last 9 years is required. Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis) is recommended. Tetanus is required every 10 years.
- Hepatitis B: Completion of the full series (2 childhood doses or 3 adult doses, depending on when and where received). If your serology (blood work) shows no immunity - you will require an additional booster.
- COVID-19: Proof of a full series of COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Flu Vaccine – non-mandatory – strongly recommended: In the event of an outbreak during a clinical placement, non-immunized students may be prohibited from continuing, jeopardizing successful completion. The School of Nursing strongly recommends influenza immunization, as it may become mandatory at any time. Once the flu vaccine is available in the Fall Term, you can upload proof of vaccination to Synergy free of charge. Flu vaccines available through Healthcare Providers, TBDHU, and local pharmacies.
- Additional Vaccinations: Any other vaccinations you receive must also be submitted with your clinical document package.
If your vaccinations were done in Canada, it’s recommended that you obtain your full immunization record through your local Public Health Unit. This should include all childhood and school-based immunizations. Many Public Health Units offer online access to immunization records.
International students must submit proof of immunization in English, documented by their health care provider or a recognized health agency.
