The ELC is excited to join the Coalition for Waverley Park in celebrating the grand opening on the new pavilion in Waverley Park. After a brief ceremony, enjoy musical, dance, and poetry performances by a classical string quartet, Robyn Ranger Trio, Danny Johnson, Flamenco Caravan, spoken word artists, and flow artists.

We will meet at the Agora Circle at Lakehead University at 12:30pm to take the city bus to the event together. Please remember to bring your student card with your bus pass on it.

Love art? Admire the art exhibitions at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery with the English Language Centre. Admission is free on Wednesdays!

Exhibits will include Fresh Perspectives: Secondary School Art Exhibition 2018, an exhibition featuring artwork created by local high school students, and the Aaron Veldstra: Tarlacan exhibition, an exhibition of Lakehead University Visual Arts Department graduate's paintings. 

We will meet at the Agora Circle at Lakehead University at 3:10pm to take the city bus together. Remember to bring your student card with your bus pass on it.

Tour the Thunder Bay Museum with the English Language Centre to learn about the history of Thunder Bay and its region. Admission is free.

Northern Images Art Exhibit and Sale

Members of the Northern Images Art Club will be hosting a photography exhibit and sale at the Oliver Road Community Centre (563 Oliver Road) from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Join the ELC as we attend this free event. There will be original photos, prints, giclees, cards, and magnets for sale.

We will meet at the Agora circle at 1:00pm to walk to the event together. The community centre is 1.1 kilometres from the university. It will take us about 15 minutes to walk there.

Kakabeka Falls Hike

Join the ELC and the LU International Office as we go to Kakabeka Falls - the second largest waterfall in Ontario that is accessible year round! We will take a bus together from the university to the falls. It will be about a 35 minute bus ride. Once arrived, we will hike 4 kilometres round trip to a smaller waterfall called Little Falls.

Please sign up at the reception desk of the International Centre, located on the ground floor of the Chancellor Paterson Library, to reserve your spot. 

On the day of the event:
- Meet at the Agora Circle by 12:45pm to take a rented bus to the park
- Eat lunch before coming
- Dress for the weather
- Bring water
- Wear good walking shoes

The ELC will be attending Celebrate Quetico Park. Hosted by the Friends of Quetico Park, this fun-filled evening will celebrate Quetico Park, a world famous destination for backcountry canoeing with over 2,000 lakes and 460,000 hectars of remote wilderness in northwestern Ontario. 

The keynote speaker will be Kevin Callan ("The Happy Camper"). He has written 16 books, worked in film and television, and is a columnist, writer, and blogger for Explore and Paddling Magazine.

Super Circus Spectacular

Returning for a second time to Canada, the world renowned Super Circus Spectacular, will be at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday, May 19! This 2-hour circus will feature motorcycle Titans in the Globe of Death, trick riders on galloping horses, a giant clydesdale and Mini Me, the world's cutest dogs and ponies, clowns, acrobats, and juggles. 

We will be attending the 7:30pm showtime. 

Sign up today in the reception of the international office to reserve your reduced-price ticket, which cost $10 each (regular admission is $30). Tickets are limited (only 20 available).
