Please join us in person or by zoom for an engaging talk from Karen Saunders, Director of Wildlife and Industry at WWF-Canada. All are welcome!
Karen is the Director of Industry and Wildlife at WWF-Canada. She is an energetic professional forester with an extensive background in natural resources, including work in the forestry, mining and energy infrastructure sectors. Most recently, she spent 7 years working for 24 First Nations on the majority Indigenous-owned Wataynikaneyap Power transmission line project, planned and built in accordance with community advice and priorities.
Karen has a Master of Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and is a Registered Professional Forester in Ontario. Over the course of her career, she has worked with many First Nation, provincial and federal governments and a number of private companies on environment and industry projects across Canada. Her work has included land use, forest management, and water management planning; environmental assessments; socio-economic research; stakeholder and Indigenous engagement; and government permit and process navigation.
This presentation will include an overview of WWF-Canada and projects and a particular focus on the work of the team led by Karen on Wildlife and Industry.
Gain hands-on field experience in stunning and remote locations while earning a Lakehead University credit! The OUPFB program offers students the chance to study topics not offered at their home institution such as Tropical Marine Biology, Field Ornithology, Ecology of Bats among others.
Interested students are encouraged to drop by our information session on Thursday, Nov. 27 between 1 and 3:30 p.m. in CB 3013.
