Lakehead's Use of the Research Support Fund in 2022-2023

The federal government requests that we report the use of funds by six categories, which are: Facilities; Resources; Management and Administration; Regulatory Requirements, Intellectual Property and Research Security.

Facilities expenditures include the salaries for technicians in the Lakehead University Instrumentation Laboratory, utility and cleaning costs for research labs and engineering support from Physical Plant towards research infrastructure projects, etc. Research Resources include a contribution towards digital library resources, and insurance on tri-agency funded research vehicles, etc. Management and Administrative costs include expenses to provide researchers with grant writing assistance through research facilitators, other research support services, human resources and payroll support, research accounting services, promotional expenses, and support of Lakehead's annual Research and Innovation week etc. Regulatory requirements include the costs of maintaining animal facilities, animal care technician salaries,  the management of ethics boards, and training activities related to ethics and compliance, etc. Intellectual property expenses include the cost of the Office of Innovation, Partnerships and Economic Development (IPED) and the support of technology transfer activities.  Research Security involved the development of research data guidelines and classification standard for researchers.
