This social media session will offer a mix of strategies, tools, and practical recommendations. Specifically, the session will delve into 1) choosing which social media platforms to use, 2) best practices, including post frequency, hashtags and @'s, professional vs. personal accounts, knowledge mobilization, and social media policies, 3) increasing the reach, engagement, and virality of your content through the strategic utilization of readability, emotionality, and platform structure, and 4) self-branding strategies, including value proposition development, and brand consistency. Activities will include crafting and critiquing social media posts about your research.

Communicating your Research: Media Workshop

Communicating Your Research for Impact will include a Media workshop to help researchers better prepare to meet the specific demands of print and online media, radio, and television. The workshop will cover news factors (“What are reporters interested in?”), and gain an understanding of the media landscape, including the role of both traditional and digital media platforms, and the value of engaging with these audiences. In this workshop, participants will learn to evaluate the newsworthiness of their information and research, and how to engage with various media types. Information on Lakehead University’s media engagement protocol and procedures will be shared. The interactive format will include peer review content writing and mock interviews.
