potential misuse through practical mitigation strategies tailored for Canada's academic environment. You'll gain critical insights into threat identification, risk assessment, and concrete tools to protect your work while maintaining research integrity and collaboration: Public Safety Canada's Research Security Centre presents an essential Safeguarding Research Workshop on October 1 from 11 AM to 1:00 pm, with lunch provided afterwards. Led by Jennifer Weese, Regional Advisor for Ontario and Nunavut, this session equips scientists and researchers with crucial knowledge to protect their research assets and intellectual property from emerging threats. Participants will learn to identify risk indicators in dual-use research, technology, and materials while gaining access to practical mitigation tools and strategies that prevent misuse of their work. Jennifer brings extensive expertise in implementing the National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships (NSGRP) and the Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC), serving as the vital link between the research community and federal agencies on research security matters. The workshop maintains strict confidentiality protocols—no recordings or AI note-taking features are permitted as the session is not for attribution. Virtual attendance is available for those in Orillia by contacting security.research@lakeheadu.ca after registration. This workshop offers researchers an invaluable opportunity to strengthen their security posture and understand the latest vulnerabilities threatening Canadian research.
