Leadercast is the world’s largest one-day leadership conference, broadcast live from Atlanta and simulcast to hundreds of locations around the world.  Encouraged by the success of its premier Leadercast event staged with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce last May, Leadership Thunder Bay is hosting the first-ever Leadercast Women event this October 5 at the Best Western Nor’Wester Resort Hotel. 

Presenters will include Bernice King, CEO, The King Center; Founder, Be A King; Author, “Hard Questions, Heart Answers” and the proud daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Through her work at the King Center, Ms. King has continued to educate youth and adults about the nonviolence principles modeled by her parents. Today, she continues to expand and enhance The King Center’s Nonviolence 365 Education and Training initiatives. She is dedicated to fulfilling the calling of taking her parent’s legacy and The King Center into a new era.

 Attendees will also hear from Jan Smith, dubbed “Mama Jan” by Usher, multi-Grammy awarded hip-hop and R&B artist and the world’s premier vocal producer and instructor. With over 26 years’ experience in the music industry as an artist and mentor, she is a Grammy-nominated producer and Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductee. In addition to being a creative force for vocal excellence, Smith is a visionary executive working across entertainment to reboot the music industry into an artist-driven business. She was named by Billboard as one of the top 100 women in music business.

Ginger Hardage, Former Senior Vice President of Culture and Communications, Southwest Airlines will also take the stage.  Hardage was responsible for the actions that led to Southwest being featured on Fortune’s Top 10 “Most Admired Companies in the World.”  Leadercast Women will also feature Molly Fletcher, former top sports agent and author, Jenn Lim, CEO and Chief Happiness Officer, Delivering Happiness and Laura Vanderkam, author of “I Know How She Does It” and “What Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast”, among several other presenters.

Egale Canada Human Rights Trust workshops

Egale Canada Human Rights Trust is hosting two workshops aimed to improve the mental health, wellness and social conditions of Two Spirit students on campus by enhancing protective factors through broadening awareness and acceptance of Two Spirit identities across campus. Two Spirit is an umbrella term used in Indigenous communities to affirm the interrelatedness of the multiple aspects of identity - including gender, sexuality, community, culture, and spirituality. Learners will be equipped with knowledge and skills to confront the oppression and exclusion Two Spirit students experience and foster inclusion in their academic communities.

 

These free workshops will be held Wednesday, April 12th and Thursday, April 13th at the Lakehead University Bartley Residence Conference Centre. The first workshop introduces Two Spirit allyship, awareness and safety; and the second workshop prepares learners to build peer-to-peer support networks for Two Spirit students.
