How can I apply to the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program?

Can I apply to Lakehead University and do my clinical practicum in my home community?

All clinical practice is to be done in Lakehead University’s geographic boundary which is east to Wawa, north to Hudson's Bay, west to the Manitoba border, and south to the U.S. border. Therefore, if home is within this boundary we will look for suitable placements in your area.

Does Lakehead University offer the PHCNP program with a Master’s Degree?

Yes, the Master of Public Health Nursing Specialization with Nurse Practitioner Electives provides students with a Master’s degree and PHCNP credential. There are two options at Lakehead University to attain a PHCNP with a Master's Degree: either as a Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner Specialization or as a Master of Public Health Nursing Specialization with Nurse Practitioner Electives.

Do you have other start dates than September?

We only have one admission intake per year. All students start in September as any course that starts at another time (e.g. winter) has a fall pre-requisite.
