When should you arrive in Canada?
For both the students who have the language requirements and those who do not have the language requirements, you must be at Lakehead U. on August 25, 2025, for NRMT 1094. All the additional information regarding NRMT 1094 and NRMT 4094 will be shared using D2L after June 19, 2025
Be ready to be outdoors rain or shine! Don't forget to pack a daily lunch, water, sunscreen and bug spray (there are ticks, so Deet is helpful!) as well as the required field gear (see the list below).
How and when will the final year transcript from Lakehead U. be issued?
In 2026, marks are due on April 23, 2026. Graduates are then approved at the May Senate meeting, which occurs the second week of May. After Senate approves the graduates, their credential is indicated on their official transcript. The transcript from Lakehead University will only have the courses and grades from the students’ time at Lakehead. We will not have a record of what they did at Anhui. This should be on a separate transcript. Students are required to request official transcripts to be sent if needed. Parchments will be available to students at Convocation if they attend or mid-June if they do not. We do not provide electronic copies of parchments.

REQUIRED FIELD GEAR FOR THE FIELD SCHOOLS
(To be purchased in Canada as they need to meet Canadian standards)
Clothing | Warm, comfortable, quick drying! Layers are good because it’s often cool in the morning but warm at mid-day. |
Rain Gear | Bring a good quality rain suit (not a poncho). Many of these are bright orange with safety stripes on them. This makes it much easier to see you in the bush! |
Safety Boots | Regulations stipulate that you must wear safety boots (green patch toes and soles min 8" ankle height from sole to top) when in the field. Waterproof toes are helpful. Check out Marks Work Wearhouse; Canadian Tire; - you will be walking a LOT in the bush - be comfy! |
Hard Hat | Hard hats are a must with face screens/ear protection |
Gloves | Puncture resistant, Cut Level 4 |
Vest | High Visibility or a Cruising vest (with pockets, etc.) |
Compass | You must have your own compass. Either the Silva Ranger 2 or the Suunto MC-2 model is acceptable. There are no substitutes. This is one of the most important pieces of equipment you will ever own |
Safety Glasses | Buy a pair that is comfortable and fits well |
Backpack | Fill it with plant-collecting gear (see below), clipboard with a cover (keeps the rain/dew out of your notes), a whistle, sunglasses, bug repellent, sunscreen, a water bottle, a thermos, and a good, nourishing lunch! You can buy backpack covers for rainy days |
Money | There is an ATM on campus. |
Meals | Students staying in Residence need to clarify when their meal plan starts and what the hours are. You can order a box lunch if you are going to be off-campus but you have to order it 24 hours ahead of time. Use www.lakeheadu.catertrax.com website to put in your order |
Plant Collecting Supplies | Masking tape for labeling samples, a pocket knife, and a small trowel. Anvil-style, hand-held, good-quality clippers are necessary to ensure clean cuts and minimal damage to the tree. Small notebook for writing down field info |
