WEB: Asynchronous online course delivery that is self-paced with course materials (lectures, readings, forums, assessments, etc.) made available for students to access and engage with on their own schedule. There are still deadlines, and some instructors will release materials on a week-by-week basis rather than all at once, but students can usually decide how and when they will work through the course materials
ZOOM: Synchronous online course delivery where the instructor and students are all online at the same time, and the material is delivered in real time using methods such as Zoom. Students can ask questions, take tests, or participate in discussions online while the instructor is available to assist them
LEC: Courses delivered through on-campus lecture
LAB: Instructional hours that enhance/supplement the lecture; on-campus
FIE: These courses involve travel off-campus to complete course work and/or conduct research in the field.
Performance: Courses that are in the form of a musical performance; normally on-campus
Practicum: Courses that are in the form of practical training, potentially on/off campus.
Seminar:Courses that are Instructor directed but student lead discussion; normally on-campus
Studio: Format for these courses is studio-based and involves hands-on experience; normally on-campus
Video Conferencing: Lectures are delivered simultaneously between Lakehead campuses. Lectures are synchronous and on-campus
TBA: The Course Timetable for the Winter 2021 term will be updated with mode of delivery and other details as more information becomes available about the COVID-19 pandemic.
SYNC: Synchronous online course delivery where the instructor and students are all online at the same time, and the material is delivered in real time using methods such as WebEX, Zoom or another similar platform (more information will be provided by the instructor). Lakehead University continues to offer its signature small class size experiences delivered on-campus, hands-on experiential learning opportunities, as well as hybrid course offerings and a mix of online and Zoom courses.
Some of your courses may be on-campus, which you will find on the timetable specific to your location. You may also find online or remote courses if they are specific to your campus. You may also search Online Delivery for any remote or online course that is not campus specific. Regardless of delivery or campus, take a look at the "Method" column to understand what to expect.
