Research

Natural resources management is the stewardship of public and private forested landscapes, aimed at achieving a balance between ecological sustainability, economic viability, and societal acceptance of land use. Guided by science, it draws on ecological health, sound business practices, professional ethics, traditional values, transparency, and public participation.

At the Faculty of Natural Resources Management, we recognize that natural resources are the foundation of ecological stability and human well-being. Yet they face growing pressures from climate change, population growth, and unsustainable exploitation. Our mission is to advance research in renewable resources management, informing best practices and ecosystem management policies. We focus on creating innovative solutions for environmental and societal challenges such as climate change, developing local, national, and global partnerships.

Our faculty leads diverse research projects across forestry, environmental sciences, and resource management, with students encouraged to take an active role. With a long tradition of producing world-class knowledge and technologies, our expertise spans remote sensing, genetics, forest operations, plant pathology, fire, hydrology, entomology, wildlife ecology, soil science, wood science, and tree ecophysiology.

Through these efforts, we continue to strengthen partnerships with industry, NGOs, governments, and Indigenous communities - ensuring that our research delivers practical solutions for sustainable resource stewardship in a rapidly changing world.
