The Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University - Thunder Bay offers a uniquely designed four-year Bachelor of Engineering Degree program in Civil Engineering, with a Co-op/Internship option available. The BEng (Civil) degree at Lakehead University is accredited through the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).

Lakehead University - Thunder Bay has the only Faculty of Engineering in Canada where, after completing high school, you can earn a Bachelor of Engineering Degree and an Engineering Technology Diploma in four years.

The Faculty of Engineering- Thunder Bay campus also offers a post-diploma engineering degree program in Civil Engineering designed specifically for graduate engineering technologists.

Civil Engineering at Lakehead University

The unique structure of Lakehead’s programs at the Thunder Bay campus enables students to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering in four years while also completing the requirements of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma by the end of the second year of their BEng degree program.

Studying engineering at Lakehead gives you an unconventional opportunity to gain the skills required by employers. The unique combination of BEng degree with a Diploma in Engineering Technology from Lakehead University produces graduates with hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge critical to success.

The special design of the 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering at the Lakehead University Thunder Bay campus enables qualified engineering technology graduates from accredited Canadian technology programs to enter the BEng program after completing post-diploma transition courses offered in the summer session prior to third year. The Summer Transition program, offered in July and August, is designed to assist qualified engineering technologists make the transition to university studies. Our programs attract students from Victoria to St. John’s, as well as many international students. Lakehead graduates are well-equipped for a wide range of career opportunities and you’ll find our well-rounded graduates as recognized professionals in many engineering sectors.

As a civil engineer, you will be involved in the planning, design, construction, and rehabilitation of such engineering works as buildings, airports, highways, dams and power projects, water supply and waste disposal systems, bridges, harbours and industrial facilities. You will tackle design and research work in highway geometrics and transportation systems, high-performance concretes, environmental issues, watershed analysis, foundation, and slope stability projects or structural analysis and design engineering.
