Types of Study Abroad Options (learn more below)
Lakehead University offers various types of study abroad opportunities, including:
- Semester Exchange: This is the most common type of study abroad program, where students can study abroad at
a partner university for a semester or a full academic year. - International Dual Degree: This program allow students to earn degrees from two different universities, one in their home country and the other abroad.
- Summer Abroad: This type of program typically lasts between 2-6 weeks and is designed to provide students with a condensed cultural and academic experience abroad.

International Dual Degree Programs
Graduate on time with all of your peers*, while earning the distinction of holding an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Lakehead and another undergraduate degree from Europe. Learn more.
Short-term Summer Programs (May-August 2026)
Many of Lakehead University's international partner institutions offer short-term mobility programs, which typically run for 2-6 weeks during the Spring and Summer terms (May to August). These short-term opportunities allow Lakehead students to experience a new campus and culture in a different country and, in most cases, earn credit that will count towards their degree requirements. Many of these programs incorporate language learning and cultural immersion experiences.
International short-term program offerings vary each academic year, and for May-August 2027 these programs will be announced in January 2027. However, in the meantime you can begin your research by reviewing the list for Spring/Summer 2026 HERE. Lakehead students may have the option to complete their co-op placement abroad. | Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) Funded Programs (2019-2025) |
Lakehead University International was delighted to be able to promote numerous mobility programs to students, through Global Skills Opportunity (GSO), which was funded by the Global Affairs Canada through the Canadian Federal Government from 2019-2025. Please see below for examples of our previous faculty-led group program offerings: INTERNATIONAL FIELD COURSE IN PUCÓN, CHILE - Fall 2024 Reading Week Lakehead University is excited to present a short-term mobility program in collaboration with University of La Frontera (UFRO). This International Field Course in Pucon, Chile will provide experiences in culture and biodiversity at the frontier of Patagonia. The program at UFRO, accommodations, and flights will be fully funded by Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) funding: Lakehead's New Horizons: Global Skills, Indigenous Knowledge, and Student Mobility Project. Program dates: Friday, October 11th, 2024 - Sunday, October 20th, 2024 Expected departure to Chile: Wednesday, October 9th, 2024 / Expected arrival in Canada: Monday, October 21st, 2024 Selected participants will be manually registered for the course OUTD 3175: Special Topics - Nature-based and Cultural Tourism (0.5 FCE) to earn a Lakehead course credit in Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Tourism. The GSO Funding is only available for up to 10 domestic undergraduate students (Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents) who have not previously received GSO funding, and who meet the Government of Canada Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) funding guidelines. Funding will be prioritized for Indigenous students and low-income students (i.e. OSAP-eligible). Students who have received funding through GSO in the past or who are not citizens of Canada or Permanent Residents are not eligible for GSO funding (and would be responsible for covering the cost of the program up of approx. $6,000.00 CAD). Those who are GSO-eligible will be prioritized for this program. Key Dates
