Business English Summer Online Program

Program Overview

The Business English Program is designed for students who are interested in learning about business within a Canadian context. Topics include various business themes such as marketing, leadership, buying and selling, branding, entrepreneurship and so on. The courses are designed to enhance communicative proficiency through an integrated skill-based framework that emphasizes student-centered learning as learners will have an opportunity to engage in a number of self-discovery and pair/ group collaboration activities. The courses will also provide an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful contextual language practice of real-life/authentic tasks which they are likely to encounter if they were to pursue a career in one of the areas of learning.

Minimum age: 16 years old

Duration: 3-week online program

  • 20 hours of class instruction combined with guest speaker presentations, workshops and recreational virtual activities to provide you with an authentic, engaging, and language-rich environment for language learning and a deeper understanding of applying scientific concepts to solve practical problems.
  • This program is designed for students who have an intermediate level of language proficiency. At this level you can generally understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. You can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in areas where English is spoken. In addition, you can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest to you. Finally, you can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
  • At the end of the program, you will be able to integrate language, culture, and scientific ideas and maximize your learning through class projects and interaction with content experts.

"Lakehead gave me the confidence to develop my English skills...It was an incredible experience!"

"Lakehead's programs are not only about teaching you what you need to learn but about being prepared for life, especially a life far away from home in the case of the international students. Definitely, Lakehead became my home away from home.

Studying at Lakehead was important because there I found a multicultural place with valuable people who helped me to enjoy learning English. They gave me the confidence to develop my English skills and to not being afraid of making mistakes when I was trying to express myself in a language that is new to me. It was an incredible experience!

The activities in my English lessons were fantastic. 5 hours per day studying English seemed to be a lot, but my professor was always doing different activities with us, so we were learning without noticing it. Boredom was not included in our vocabulary.

Lakehead offers so many different activities aside from English classes like dancing lessons, visits to the most prominent places in the city including the Thunder Bay Museum, hiking and the most spectacular landscapes and views I've ever seen. Those activities help you to take a look into Canada's history, help you to interact with Canadians and learn more about them."
