Women's Studies

Since its introduction to Universities in the 1970s, the field of Women's Studies has transformed to examine gender, sexuality, masculinities, queer theory, and transnational activism, alongside women's experiences that are produced by gendered systems. In our Department, you will learn about local and transnational systems that produce gendered structures from bodies through to nation-states; you will examine how the intersection of gender, race, class, ethnicity, sexuality, ability and age produce multiple lived experiences (a Core Competency if you want to work in the Ontario Public Sector); and you will have the opportunity to put theory into practice through student engagement, Department events, and activism. The Department's award-winning Faculty all have a strong Social Justice focus, and offer you the tools you need to succeed in your degree and in the job market.
