Lakehead's Commitment to Partnering to Advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Lakehead University recognizes the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals requires cross-sector collaboration. Success is dependent on a collective working together to advance solutions through sharing of resources, knowledge and expertise, and development of innovative partnerships to advance pioneering solutions to these global challenges.
Through its commitment to access, innovative programming, teaching and learning, and exceptional research, Lakehead is leveraging its ability to mobilize all aspects of its community, including students and future changemakers, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry, community and Indigenous partners, to drive local and global change aligned to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Lakehead University is also embedding our commitment to social responsibility across its operations, taking steps to model social and environmental justice in our policies, procedures, decisions, platforms, and systems.
