(Orillia) , (Thunder Bay) Maclean’s magazine’s 2015 University Rankings place Lakehead University second among Ontario’s primarily undergraduate universities. When compared to all Canadian universities in this category, Lakehead rose two spots from last year to rank eighth.

(Orillia) , (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University has been ranked in the top three Research Universities of the Year in the undergraduate category of Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities, released annually by Re$earch Infosource. Re$earch Infosource ranks Lakehead second among Ontario’s undergraduate universities, and third among Canada’s undergraduate universities.

(Orillia) Hundreds of prospective students and their families are expected to visit Lakehead University’s Orillia campus next weekend, as the University opens its doors for its annual Fall Preview Day. The event takes place on Saturday, October 25 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at 500 University Avenue.

(Thunder Bay) Two evolutionary biologists from Princeton University will present The Evolution of Darwin’s Finches at Lakehead University on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 pm in UC1017. Peter and Rosemary Grant have spent much of their lives studying finches living on one of the smallest islands in the Galápagos archipelago, 1,000 km west of South America.

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University’s In Conversation speaker series returns to the Thunder Bay Public Library this year with talks scheduled from October until April. Experts from Lakehead University will give free presentations about dementia, Aboriginal People’s legal rights, climate change, Indigenous children and adoption, and the development of Lakehead University during its first 50 years.

(Thunder Bay) Today, at a celebration at Lakehead University’s Faculty of Law, University President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Stevenson announced that Ontario’s newest school of law would be named the “Bora Laskin Faculty of Law” in recognition of the Thunder Bay son and former Chief Justice’s integrity and contributions to Canadian law.

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University researchers are receiving nearly $350,000 from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to improve the quality of people’s lives in Canada and abroad. Dr. Vicki Kristman, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Sciences, is receiving a New Investigator Award of $300,000 over five years for a supervisor training program that could improve work disability outcomes for injured workers.

(Orillia) Beginning September 8, Lakehead University students, faculty and staff will have the option to enjoy a new bus service between Lakehead Orillia’s 500 University Avenue site and the City of Barrie. The new transit link, established by Lakehead University and Hammond Transportation, will provide service between the Lakehead Orillia campus and the Barrie Bus Terminal four times a day (Monday to Friday), as well as on weekends.

Attending post-secondary school is a big change for most young adults, as they move away from home and start a new chapter of their lives. It can be a very scary experience and one of the best ways to help calm those fears is to attend Orientation. At Lakehead Orillia, students can be guaranteed a great first impression of university life, as the campus began planning their Thunderwolves Howl: Orientation 2014 all the way back in April.

Thunderwolves Howl! 2014, which will be from Thursday, Sept. 4 until Wednesday, Sept. 10, is focused on helping students make a successful transition to Lakehead University. Faculty and staff at Lakehead look forward to welcoming new undergraduate students and their families to the Thunder Bay campus.
