Winter Wellness Week

We are very excited to announce our next mental health event: Winter Wellness Week 2021. As you may know, we, the Lakehead University peer support club runs mental health activities and hosts events as part of a collaboration with Jack.org, a Canadian mental health charity.

Wellness week will commence January 18th and each day we have different challenges and/or activities that students can partake in. These will be posted daily on our Facebook and Instagram pages (IG: @l.u.m.h.p.s). Each day has a specific theme in mind; mindful eating, journaling, reflection, etc. There are also some fun draws for students to partake in.

No Legal Way Out: R v Ryan, Coercive Control and the Meaning of Duress

This talk is part of the Interdisciplinary Studies events series held biweekly on Fridays

In this talk, we examine the story of a woman who felt she had no legal way out and acted under duress. Through a feminist lens, we explain why the Supreme Court of Canada, the RCMP and the media let down Nicole Doucet and all women trapped in abusive relationships.

Dr. Lori Chambers is the Chair and Graduate Coordinator of Gender and Women's Studies, Lakehead University. In the Winter 2021 semester she is teaching Feminist Engagement with Law (with a focus on Gender-Based Violence) and a graduate seminar, Feminist Theories. Her research centers on gender-based violence.

Dr. Nadia Verrelli is an Associate Professor at Laurentian University. Her main teaching and research centers on Canadian constitutionalism, federalism and institutions
