Dr. Vladimir Shagin, P.E., has over 30 years of experience providing structural engineering services for high end architecturally innovative building. Dr. Shagin brings very valuable knowledge and experience to the design team. His professional experience includes analysis, design, and detailing of a variety of steel and concrete structures and coordination of architectural and mechanical requirements. He is a key player with a strong theoretical and practical set of skills to solve complex engineering problems where standard methods do exist.

Dr. Moustafa El-Sawy, S.E., P.E., is a structural engineering at AECOM's New York office. He was involved in the design and construction of numerous large scale projects including, but not limited to, a number of iconic stadiums, airport terminals, army bases, and hospitals. Mr. El-Sawy has created a number of tools to automate time-consuming tasks and enhance BIM technologies specifically interoperability between a various commercial structural software packages, some of which are currently being used by several structural teams firms across North America.

This workshop will introduce you to the OMNI search system, which enables you to find the books, articles, documentaries, and other resources which you need for your essays and assignments.

After attending this workshop, you will be able to use OMNI to:

  • find books on your topic, and how to request books from other Ontario universities
  • how to find peer reviewed scholarly articles
  • how to follow "citation trails"
  • how to request that a small section of a print item be scanned and emailed to you
  • how to login to OMNI, and create lists of favourite items
