Sebastian Belmar, MSCF candidate, will discuss The effect of forest tent caterpillar (Malacosoma disstria) outbreaks on the abundance of songbirds in Ontario.Outbreaks of forest tent caterpillar (Malacosoma disstria) are a major disturbance of deciduous forest and they may represent a food-resource pulse for insectivorous bird species. However, it is unclear if the outbreaks influence the abundance of birds, as the forest tent caterpillar is generally considered an unpalatable. A study of the response of the abundance of forest birds to the outbreaks may provide insight into their ecology and identify any bird species
