Sweat lodge conductor, Gene Nowegejick, will be offering a Sweat Lodge Ceremony for students and staff of Lakehead University on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

Ceremony starts at 5:00 pm at the Lakehead University Sweat Lodge Site. Women should wear long skirts and a t-shirt. Men should wear shorts. Be sure to bring a towel. Participants are encouraged to bring the Elder a tobacco offering which is available for pick-up at the Aboriginal Cultural & Support Services office. (RC0002)

Women who are on their moon time must not participate in the Sweat Lodge Ceremony or handle ceremonial items.

Once again we will be hosting the Great Canadian Hair "Do" in the Learning Commons located in the Simcoe Hall building at 500 University Ave.

The spirit of the Great Canadian Hair 'Do' is to do something out of the ordinary for the event, so if you would like to shave your head, cut your hair, wax your legs or anything else we welcome your participation.

Our goal this year will be to raise $1500 at this event, $1.00 for every student attending studies at the Orillia campus. This year's all star line-up will include: Frank Cappadocia, Neil Quinn and Erin Jarvis

Together, Aboriginal Initiatives and Aboriginal Cultural and Support Services extend a warm, campus-wide invitation to the Lakehead University community to our annual Fall Harvest.

All students, staff and faculty are invited to come out and experience Aboriginal culture through teachings given by our traditional Elders. Our Fall Harvest will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the sweat lodge site.

Join us to learn about moccasin making and hand drumming. Sample fresh pickerel and bannock. Join the Elders as they share tipi, sweat lodge and traditional medicine teachings and much more!

Everyone is welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you there, rain or shine!

This is a non-competitive event with 1 km, 5 km, or 10 km routes along the beautiful waterfront trail system and you can choose to run, walk, bike, wheelchair or walk your dog.

As were Terry's wishes, there is no minimum donation or fundraising required to participate in the Terry Fox Run!

NSERC will be visiting Lakehead University on September 15th at 9 am in ATAC 3004. The presentation is open to everyone, including both faculty and students.

It will include program and eligibility details pertaining to the different NSERC scholarships programs. More specifically the following topics:

1) Undergraduate program (USRA);

2) CGS M (including an overview on how to complete a CGS M application using the Research Portal); and

3) Doctoral and PDF level programs (including an overview of Form 201 for PGS D and PDF).
