Place-Based Education in Huronia (EDUC 3910 / 5414)

Next Offered in Spring Semester, 2026

This course introduces students to the content and practice of Place-Based Education (PBE) through an intensive exploration of Huronia by bike, foot, and canoe. It will provide an in-depth study of the region’s Indigenous and Settler histories, patterns of colonization, geographic features, and environmental characteristics, to prepare educators teaching in this area with a strong foundation of place. It will also introduce students to the philosophies, pedagogies, and curriculums of PBE, providing opportunities to practice this approach.
