Canopy internship support & training opportunities: priority call for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) applicants

Canopy – the Canadian One Health Training Program on Emerging Zoonoses – is currently accepting internship applications for 2026.  Internships are meant to support trainees in gaining experience outside their direct field of study and in a place or with groups who they do not work with directly. The program supports trainees interested in contributing to interdisciplinary efforts to strengthen Canada’s capacity to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emerging zoonotic diseases, using a One Health approach. We welcome applicants from all disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to the natural and health sciences, public health, social sciences, policy, Indigenous knowledge systems, humanities, and the arts. In addition to this internship call, Canopy will be offering other internship support opportunities and scholarship calls over the coming year, which will be shared separately.

The present call for internship support is open to the following individuals based in Canada:

  • Graduate trainees (Master’s and PhD)
  • Postdoctoral fellows
  • Clinical interns or residents
  • Early Career Researchers (within 5 years of their last degree)

Successful applicants will receive up to $10,000 in internship support, along with access to training and networking opportunities.

Priority consideration for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) applicants: In support of our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the meaningful integration of Indigenous knowledge in One Health training, priority consideration will be given to Indigenous applicants. We warmly encourage Indigenous trainees and early career researchers to apply.

Deadline for applications: 9 March 2026, 23:59 EDT.
