Admission & Application Information for the Two-Year Bachelor of Education Program

The Two-Year Bachelor of Education program is offered at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia Campus at Lakehead University. This program is designed for graduates of a three or four year undergraduate degree program.

The Thunder Bay Campus offers two teaching divisions - Primary/Junior, and Intermediate/Senior. The Orillia Campus offers the Primary/Junior teaching division.

General Admission Requirements:

Undergraduate Degree: Proof of the completion of a recognized undergraduate degree (and/or in-progress courses). Degrees completed through a College Transfer program must have a minimum of five (5) full year course equivalents completed at the university level to be eligible for admission consideration.

Applicants presenting applied degrees with an average of 75% or higher will be assessed on an individual basis.

Admission Average:
Selection of applicants is based on academic achievement. The admission average will be calculated using the last 10 undergraduate degree level full course equivalents (not including college transfer credits) completed at the time of application. Preference will be given to applicants who present a minimum 70% average or equivalent.

The admission average will be calculated using the grades reported on an official transcript that must be received by Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions by the application deadline, December 1, 2016. If credits are in-progress at the time of application, they will be considered in order to fulfill teaching subject requirements, but will not be used to calculate an admission average. Graduate courses, college transfer credits, CEGEP and Secondary School courses are not considered as part of the admission average calculation.

Preference will be given to applicants who present an Honours degree or a degree with 20 full course equivalents.

Equity: Mature, Aboriginal and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Mature applicants are defined as a person who has been awarded their undergraduate degree five (5) or more years ago. Mature students are identified by Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions by the date their degrees were awarded, as noted on their official transcripts.

  • Aboriginal applicants may identify their Aboriginal ancestry on the OUAC application form in the field provided.
  • Persons with a disability, who feel that they have been academically disadvantaged may outline reasons in a personal statement submitted to Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions at Lakehead University.
