We are proud to offer a diverse selection of Masters, PhD, and Certificate offerings at the graduate level...but we provide much more than a wide variety of program options. Our students enjoy the guidance and support of highly dedicated faculty, incredible funding opportunities, and considerable freedom as to what, and where, they will study.

To get started, peruse our lists of graduate programs. After you've made your choice, learn about the general admission and application requirements. Keep in mind that your program may require additional criteria to be met.

We are no longer accepting International applications to the Fall 2017 intake.  The Winter 2018 intake will open at the end of July 2017.

How To Apply

  1. Interested applicants should begin by reviewing a program's admission requirements. To access this information, visit our list of Masters, PhD, or Certificate programs, click on a program title, and then select 'Requirements'. NOTE: Pre-assessment services are not available. Applicant qualifications will be assessed once a formal application package has been submitted to a graduate program.
  2. If you satisfy the program's minimum admission requirements, the next step is to review the program's application requirements.

Application Information

Application Fee

Applicants to a graduate program must submit a non-refundable application fee of one hundred Canadian dollars $100 CAD. Your application package will not be processed until the application fee has been received.

When you submit the application fee by credit card, you will be granted immediate access to your online Lakehead University myInfo application account. When you submit the application fee by other all other payment methods, such as cheque, money order, bank draft, access to your myInfo account will be granted once the Faculty of Graduate Studies has confirmed that the application fee has been received and processed.

Start Term

Graduate Students applying for the first time normally apply for a Fall (September) start term. However, in some academic units, students are permitted to apply to begin their studies in the Winter (January) or Spring (May) terms. Complete list of programs and available academic start terms.

Application Deadline

Although applications are received on a continual basis, we recommend that interested applicants submit a complete application package by the following dates:

  • For a Fall start term: February 1
  • For a Winter start term: September 30
  • For a Spring start term: January 15

After You Apply

Once a Graduate Studies Application Form and Fee Payment has been received, an acknowledgement letter will be emailed to the address indicated on your application form.

The acknowledgement letter will contain the information required to access both your Lakehead University online myInfo application account and Lakehead University myEmail account.

Once you receive the acknowledgement letter, please access both your myInfo and myEmail accounts for information regarding your graduate studies application.

Your myInfo account will provide you with the tools to review your application status and to upload/submit the additional documents required in support of your graduate studies application.

Admissions

Admission Decisions

Once processed, your application will be forwarded to the appropriate academic department for review. Once an admission recommendation has been received from the academic department and approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, your myInfo account will be updated immediately and a formal letter indicating the final admission decision will be emailed to the email address indicated on your application. There is no set date by which offers will be made as each academic unit will work within their own timeframe, and the admission process is an ongoing process. Please review your myInfo application profile on a regular basis for updated information regarding your graduate studies application.

Conditional Admission

Applicants may be considered for conditional admission, within the University's Graduate Studies Admission Regulations and upon approval from the academic department. Please submit a formal and complete application package as outlined above.
