May 23	Lakehead University Professors Release Book on Strengths-Based Approach (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University’s Dr. Ed Rawana and Dr. Keith Brownlee have released a book describing how educators can adopt a strengths-based approach to teaching that will help students reach their full potential inside and outside the classroom.
May 16	Lakehead University Announces 2014 Civitas Award Recipient (Orillia) An award-winning environmental consultant, writer, artist, nature photographer, educator, and naturalist will receive Lakehead University’s 2014 Civitas Award. The award recipient, Robert Bowles of Orillia, is known throughout Simcoe County and Muskoka regions for his exemplary ecological stewardship.
May 16	Lakehead University Commemorates Daniel Beardy Memorial Award (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Stevenson and Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy commemorated the life of Beardy’s late son, Daniel, with a ceremony. The Daniel Beardy Memorial Award was created in 2012 in memory of Daniel. Today’s event commemorated the ten years since Daniel’s passing, in 2004.
May 15	Real-world business project a fitting capstone to Lakehead students’ degree (Orillia) The final class for a group of Lakehead business students last month was not your average end-of-term get-together. For the ten students who were completing their business degrees, they spent their last class making strategic business recommendations to the senior management team of Orser Technical Services, based in Orillia.
May 13	Lakehead University Researchers Receive TVN Fellowship Award (Thunder Bay) Two researchers from Lakehead University are receiving the highly prestigious Technology Evaluation in the Elderly Network (TVN) fellowship award of $50,000 per year for two years. Eight such awards are being presented in Canada. The purpose of the award reflects TVN’s mandate: to develop highly qualified professionals who can thrive in a multi-disciplinary health care environment.
May 12	Registration now open for Lakehead University’s Summer Camp U (Orillia) Your kids could be heading off to university sooner than you think! This summer, Lakehead Orillia's day camp is back, giving kids 6 - 13 years of age a sneak peek into university life. Starting July 7, the University is offering four one-week camp sessions, beginning with Camp U 101 (July 7 – 11) that will give campers a taste of arts, science and nature themed activities. The following weeks will each focus on one theme area: Arts U (July 14 – 18), Super Science (July 21 – 25) and Nuts for Nature (July 28 – August 1).

Apr 24	Lakehead University’s inaugural TESL class receives certification (Thunder Bay) The inaugural class of Lakehead University’s 2013 Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate program has now received its Level 1 Certification through TESL Canada, which means that their qualifications to teach English as a Second Language will be recognized around the world.

Apr 22	Lakehead University Professors Receive Teaching Innovation Award (Thunder Bay) Three Lakehead University Associate Professors from the School of Nursing have won the COUPN Teaching Innovation Award for a mask-making project introduced to nursing students in September. This award recognizes teaching innovation in a baccalaureate or graduate nursing education program, and acknowledges an outstanding contribution to nursing education through teaching innovation.

Apr 7	Lakehead Orillia student Conor Jones shares his experience studying abroad (Orillia) Conor Jones of Orillia is in his third year of the Honours Bachelor Commerce program at Lakehead University. In May 2013 May, he began exploring the idea of studying abroad for the 2013 fall semester. Conor worked with the Lakehead Orillia Student Affairs Department to organize a trip to Sweden. After receiving a Student Exchange Bursary through Lakehead University International, he was able to pack his bags and set out on his journey.
Apr 7	Lakehead Establishes MOUs with Mexican Indigenous Intercultural Universities (Thunder Bay) , (Orillia) Lakehead University’s Vice-Provost (Aboriginal Initiatives), Dr. Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux, and President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Brian Stevenson, have signed three memoranda of understanding (MOU) with three Indigenous Intercultural Universities in Mexico.
Apr 4	Lakehead University MBA student wins 2nd Prize in Focus 2040 competition (Thunder Bay) A Lakehead University Masters of Business Administration student, Naureen Mushfique, recently placed second in the Focus 2040 Competition. This competition challenges students to evaluate what the workplace will be like in the year 2040. Students are asked to think beyond textbook principles, evaluate real world workplaces, and plan an innovative work system.
Apr 3	Lakehead Hosts Ontario’s University Leadership in Thunder Bay (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Brian Stevenson, is pleased to host a two-day Council of Ontario Universities (COU) meeting of the province’s University Presidents and Academic Colleagues at its Thunder Bay campus, April 2-3.
