(Thunder Bay) With spring around the corner and the ground beginning to thaw, a device being developed by a Lakehead University researcher could be a new tool for the City of Thunder Bay to improve inspection of its network of underground sanitary sewer pipes. Using a probe outfitted with sensors and a camera, this device could detect sewer defects and pipe damage, which would benefit the city’s wastewater system.

(Thunder Bay) In 2004, both the Collaborative BScN and the Compressed BScN programs were granted candidacy status for the accreditation process by the Canadian Association Schools of Nursing (CASN) Accreditation Bureau. Since then, both programs and their associated educational units have successfully achieved accreditation status in 2009, 2018, and just recently in 2021.

The article attracted over 1000 readers per day after publication, with about half the readership from the USA and a quarter from Canada.

(Thunder Bay) Dr. Kristen Jones-Bonofiglio, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Director of the Centre for Health Care Ethics, recently published an article in the American Journal of Critical Care that outlines the ways hospital policies have neglected to support and protect the psychosocial needs of frontline health-care workers, patients and their families while providing palliative and end-of-life care.

(Thunder Bay) Last semester the Lakehead University Meal Exchange Chapter (LUMXC) applied for a grant from Food Banks Canada to be able to buy $12,000 in gift certificates to distribute to food insecure students at Lakehead University Thunder Bay. We were incredibly excited to receive the grant and have been distributing gift certificates to students since March. Given the impact that the pandemic has had on students, we're really grateful to be able to help out our fellow students who are having difficulties affording proper nutrition.

(Thunder Bay) , (Orillia) Lakehead University has been awarded $367,708 from the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) to explore new seamless transfer projects and to continue working on software that will automatically analyze curriculum gaps.
