What does it cost to access and share knowledge? Inspired by the 2026 Open Access Week theme, “The Cost of Knowledge,” this workshop explores how open access publishing can break down paywalls and make scholarly knowledge more accessible, equitable, and sustainable.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles and benefits of open access publishing
- Understand the cost of publishing behind paywalls (e.g., access barriers, fees, copyright etc.)
- Identify cost-free, sustainable pathways for open access publishing (e.g., Diamond OA, APCs waivers & discounts, institutional funding for OA)
- Apply practical strategies to share their research openly and responsibly.
